I listened, (as I do once in a long while), to John Adam's Violin Concerto last night.
Maybe I'm a philistine but it really isn't among my favorite violin concertos, and I'm not just saying this because of Adams' contemporary style, (e.g. I like Elliott Carter's Violin Concerto better).

You aren't alone {not caring for John Adam's Violin Concerto}, as most of his music leaves me cold, and also like you, it isn't the modernity, as I thoroughly enjoy violin concertos by Penderecki, Schnittke, Gubaidulina. I just think that his music doesn't have a lot to say.
