WoW Astro!--The connection there--great!-- yes I feared it would be from the Digital master--but I chased down an original Analog LP a couple of years back only to find it sold for $800USD--!!

Bit rich for me sadly!

Anyhow it would be good to have it on Lp as that is my main source of listening --I paid for this in Oct last year--$21 is not too much to suffer if the pressing is not up to snuff

Good Listening,

Bruce
I'll be ordering the LP if you think it is good. $21 is a good price these days for new vinyl. Larry

Sonatas No.1-5 today. His piano tone is a bit brittle (not sure what they did in 1971 to achieve this since it would have been analog), but his authoritative playing fully compensates for any audio shortcomings.

Dinu Lipatti - Last Recital.

Barry, Lipatti was a wonderful pianist. This was his recital at the Besancon Festival in September of 1950, three months before his death. He was quite weak by then, soon to die of Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 33. My wife's piano teacher in college, Lory Wallfisch, was also from Roumania and had the same teacher as Lipatti. He was, I think, about 5 years older than she was. She remembers hearing him practice and play at his lesson, while she waited in the hall for her lesson. The famous Roumanian composer and violinist, Georges Enescu was a mentor to both. My parents had Lipatti's studio recording of the Chopin Waltzes, which I first heard some 60 years ago. They were and are still entrancing. In the last recital he only played 13 of the 14 waltzes, being too weak to play the last one. I have an old Angel 2 record set of the recital. There are some fascinating notes from his wife and from his EMI producer Walter Legge included in the album.

For other recordings, I particularly like the Grieg and Schumann Piano Concerti which he recorded in the late '40's. His recordings are definitely worth seeking out. Be careful of the recording of the Chopin Piano Concerto 1, credited to Lipatti, but actually a recording by Halina Czerny-Stefanska. It is a fine recording, just not by Lipatti.

On the turntable tonight. Not bad playing for a 14 year old! Early digital audio that analog can ameliorate only so far.

Decided to just keep playing LP's as I find them (left to right) on the various shelves. This one is not the quietest but is certainly an interesting mix of clarinet and piano. A bit slow for my taste tonight.

This Shostakovitch is stunningly beautiful. Leonard Bernstein's playing is wonderful and playful. Great sounding mono LP.

I've been totally digging "The Ligetti Project". I've been mourning Boulez as well and throwing some of that on in my more reflective moments.
