Gosh there is a lot of Brahms in this collection. Seems like every other album is another Brahms variant.

very realistic and natural sounding old-style recorcing (3 mics) - Mercury living presence (1957).

Prokofiev, scythian suite - symphony no. 5.

Antal Dorati, London Symphony Orchestra.

i wish i had this one on vinyl...

Great recordings. Unfortunately, you would need to buy two records. The CD contains 2 complete records - the Love of 3 Oranges and Scythian Suite is one (SR90006) which was a long time member of the TAS Superdisc list, and the Symphony 5 is the other (SR90258). Both were part of Speaker' Corners fine Mercury reissues. I checked their website and it looks like both are OP. The earlier record was also reissued by Classics records in both 33 and 45rpm, now OP also. There is an ORG reissue of the 90006 at 45RPM available - I haven't heard that one. I have the Classics 33 and 45 and Speakers Corners and 2 originals (FR1 and RFR1 pressings) of 90006, and the Speakers Corner of 90258. Both originals are very, very pricey.

thanks a lot for your comment Larry - very interesting info.

those records must be pure gold - i'm sure they also sound fantastic.

Debussy - the Composer and Pianist.

Not for the sound quality, but for its historical value.

Sound quality is spectacular and the playing is superb with tiny (and detailed) nuances and larger dynamics alike. This is a gem IMO...

Listened to Mahler Symphony 3 conducted by Bernstein while watching the Hamburg Ballet dance to the music. Really a visual and sonic spectacular. If they are visiting your town, I highly recommend it.

Richard Strauss, Salome. EMI 1977. Very nice.

Suites Espagnolas - Vinyl.

Assuming this is the Decca SXL6355 conducted by Raphael Fruhbeck de Burgos. He did the arranging of the music from the piano suite by Albeniz. Wonderful recording. Both Winston Ma and the Tape Project have issued this album, Winston on FIM CD and the Tape Project on R2R 15ips 2 track from the original master.

The original was a TAS Super Disc, a really fun recording. Not quite a classical recording. Chad Kassem (Analogue Prductions) has recently done a very fine reissue as part of his Living Stereo series. Can't tell from the jpg which one this is. Larry

Hi Larry, this is the Analogue Productions reissue. And I agree with you, it's rather a circus act than a classical recording. But it's quite fun. Personally I don't think classical needs always to be that serious (there are a bunch of nice Scherzos out there) and it should be sometimes also allowed to have a little fun.
