Yesterday evening I found out why I was getting "too much" bass with the D3's. It was not a lack of control, it was just too much bass in the lower mid bass region. I had two gold "resonators" on the floor of my room. I placed them there when using the D1's. They worked incredibly well with the D1's, but they were over emphasizing the bass with the D3's. As soon as I removed the resonators the bass fell into place. I still have 10 resonators in my room, but the two gold resonators on the floor were "extra" to assist the D1's in the lower bass department.
I really should not be making any type of D3 performance statements until 1) the speakers are broken in and 2) until I make sure that I have my room set up properly.
The speakers now have 50 hours on them, I will give an update once I get to the 250 mark, but even now they are sounding incredible to me, with EITHER SS or the Absolare electronics.
