JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Hi Watchdog

I'm afraid the CJ ET3SE is too much gain (25db), I have the same problem with my MOTIF (By CJ 25 db gain too) I can entering volume up to 10 hours after it's too loud. The best it's no more than 6db...

Yami,

Thanks.

I've received my DHL tracking number for my Job 225. Can't wait for it to arrive. :exciting:

watchdog,

I like your Project and CJ set up. Did you consider the onboard phono for the ET3SE? Congrats on the JOB225. I am hoping to get it this weekend and feel the same way.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks. I bought the ET3SE first before the Pro-ject. Otherwise, I would have given the onboard phono serious consideration. I am quite happy with the Graham Slee though. Was a good upgrade from my Pro-ject phono stage.

Once I get the Job, it will go straight in for 48-72 hours of run in.

North Star a belated but sincere Thank you . Dallas Texas and name is Guy. :) This question is for anyone but I think Joe was the one switching out fuse's in his Job. What was the consensus as far as best fuse to use? Norman was recommending the Quantum fuses.
Thanks,
Guy
Welcome Guy.

SR Quantum or the Audio Magic liquid Nano fuses are the consensus plays.

This is my choice but it's almost twice the price. Either will give you an improvement.

Plus, the amp may need some run time but enjoy the ride. No reason to let it play with no one hearing it. Enjoy what it can do!

I got a Job today. Unfortunately, it emits a very high frequency sound, like a dog whistle, when turned on. It is hooked up to my ARC Ref5se. It otherwise works fine, but the noise is very intrusive. It does not change as volume changes, and stops when the preamp is muted. Any ideas?

If it only occurs with the preamp unmuted it sounds like a connection issue or a tube going bad that the Job is picking up due to it's high sensitivity. If you have a digital source, plug that straight into the Job and see if you still get noise. DAC or CD player with volume control would work fine.

It does not make a peep when the preamp is off or muted. It is very quiet. It does sound fantastic with the Ref5se but the high pitched noise is too obtrusive. I played it with the variable outputs from my Oppo 105 and it sounds great, just as it should. Puzzling, because my Ref5 does not make this noise with my Ref 150 or Ayre VX-5.
I will try playing it out of my Burson Conductor this evening. But that is not a long term solution, as I don't keep the conductor in my music room.
If it is not compatible with my Ref5 I think I may have to send it back.
If anyone is interested in this before I ship it, let me know. I am in northern Michigan, and have perfect feedback on Agon under dbarger. I can take pictures if needed. I do have a Sweetcord also.

Does the Ref 5SE have RCA outs? Are you using adapters? Try a cheater plug on either piece alternatively.

It does have have both rca's and XLR's. I am playing it with a Burson Conductor now, and it sounds great.
I will try playing with a different outlet and/or cheater plug on it with the Ref tonight.
I really don't think it is a tube issue.

Like Joe said if you are using SE ouputs make sure you don't have a cable issue, as this sounds like cable, tube or connector issue on the ARC side. I have tried the Job with two SS preamps and two tube preamps and never heard a sound like that. I did find out with one of the tube preamps that I had a noisy tube that had not been picked up with other amps with lower input sensitivity.

Ok, I re-attached the Ref5, and the high pitched noise is gone. I did move some wires around, so perhaps that did it. I will play it a while and see how it sounds as it warms up.
Thanks for all your help guys!

I think you may have had a cable somewhere in the chain that had a crimp in it and by moving the cables around you relieved the stress. Glad things worked out so far. If it happens again after warm-up it is a tube.
