Just happened across your forum while doing a search today for Spiral Groove 'tables. Looks like a great place, so I thought I'd join in all the fun!

A little about myself…I've been a music lover all my life. I remember when I was only 5 years old, I would always sneak out of my parents house and go to the neighbors and plunk away on both their piano and organ. I'm sure it was nothing but noise, but I sure loved making it! Now I play both the tenor and bass trombone in jazz venues and a Montagnana cello in classical settings.

I also enjoy listening to recorded playback as well. My system would probably be considered to be vintage compared to the many of yours here on the forum, but it still brings much enjoyment to my ears…many times it will induce goosebumps on my skin, cause me to stop breathing for long moments, bring emotional tears to my eyes….so I guess it still works for me.

I'm using the Linn LP12/Naim ARO/Benz RubyH Zebrawood. Artemis Labs Ph-1 tubed phonostage, First Sound Presence Audio Linestage tubed preamp, Bel Canto SET40 845 single ended triode amplifier, Dunlavy SCIV Signature Loudspeakers. Other sources include the Naim CDSII/XPS/Super Burndy top loading cd player and a McIntosh MR67 tubed tuner.

When not playing my instruments or listening to my home stereo, I enjoy spending time with my wife and golden retriever out on our boat, or capturing beautiful images with my camera.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and talking about all things music and gear related that we audiophiles love so much.

Warmest regards,
No Regrets

Welcome to AS, No Regrets!:hi:

Great intro! You must have a huge listening room. Those Dunlavy's are HUGE!

Hello there, I'm in Wisconsin too, about 20ish minutes west of downtown Milwaukee.
Well, hello there neighbor! I'm about 90 minutes north of you in the Fox River Valley area. What a small world it is indeed!
Thank you for the welcome!

Thank you for the welcoming socfan12. I wouldn't say that my listening room is huge, but just big enough and is dedicated to my reference system. The Dunlavy's are indeed huge, but they are very special to me. I remember the first time that I heard them at the ProMusica Highend Audio dealer in Chicago. I was just mesmerized by the vocals and piano sound coming from them. I knew instantly that I had to have them and this was before they were reviewed and won numerous awards from the Stereophile mag. It took me some time to save enough cash to be able to buy them, but that is one purchase that I have never had any regrets making!

Welcome No Regrets,

in the end it's all about the music an enjoying right - Dunlavy's are marvelous speakers - have you had any issues with the woofer surroundings. One of my friends has the same, always has the grill on "approx. 17 years old" and I mentioned one day his system wasn't sounding right and is when he found this out

Hi Dev,

My speakers are probably of similar vintage to your friend's, but I have never had any issues with the surrounds. I also always keep the grills on and they do not receive any direct sunlight. I believe my surrounds are all made of rubber if I recall correctly, not of foam. No signs of cracking or rotting at all. I would be devastated if I ever had to replace my speakers. Not that there are not other great sounding speakers to be had out there, but I really would hate to have to spend the money that those great speakers command now-a-days:disbelief: I guess I am just really happy with my SCIV's and am not wanting for anything more than what these give me.

Yes, I agree whole heartedly that it is all about the music and enjoying the connection to it. Music is good for the soul!

As a P.S. to my reply to Dev……that sure is a beautiful looking turntable that you are using for your avatar! Can you tell me about it…what is it, how it compares to other tables you've had, sonic signature, speed stability, etc???

Thanks much!

Hi No Regrets,

Thanks, yes I agree gorgeous pce.

This table is one of Artisan Fidelity's many called the Achates Idler Drive, I had it commissioned. Normally the finish is of a paint which also looks stunning but this was more the type of finish I was after. I contacted Christopher and asked if he could do one in African Paduak, answer was yes. This table has his inverted bearing and new platter design, I also ask for StillPoint Ultra 5's for the feet. I only received in mid Dec just past and have yet to set-up, currently sitting in it's wooden crate. You can go to their site and if you have any technical questions best to drop Christopher a message, he is very responsive. www.artisanfidelity.com

The arm isn't mine but my REED 12" will be getting installed - this table will be for in my living room and my TechDAS Air Force One will be moved to my designated room.

Hello Dev,

Wow, that to me, looks absolutely beautiful. I just showed my wife and she agrees. If you happen to remember, could you be so kind to reply here or send me a message as to what your impressions are of it's sonics and speed stability? Boy, even it it only reproduces music half as well as she looks, you'll still have a winner there!

Hello and welcome from a fellow Wisconsinite! :hi:

Hello and thank you for the welcome Matt! What neck of the woods are you from? I'm in the Fox River Valley….about 30 minutes from Lambeau Field where the GB Packers play. It's nice to know there are a few of us Wisconsinites who enjoy music here!

Welcome to AS! :hi:

Dev, that is a beautiful table you have there. That looks like the same plinth that is used for many of the Garrard 301 tables. Absolutely gorgeous.
