Greetings from Wisconsin

Hi No Regrets,

it's band new and still sitting in it's crate so sorry I can't offer any opinion as of yet but the speed accuracy won't be an issue.

This is my main table, TechDAS Air Force One

Welcome to AS! :hi:

Dev, that is a beautiful table you have there. That looks like the same plinth that is used for many of the Garrard 301 tables. Absolutely gorgeous.

Hi Doug,

thx, you are correct and always admired so now I have my own :)

North central part of the state; in the heart of the northwoods.

Hello and thank you for the welcome Matt! What neck of the woods are you from? I'm in the Fox River Valley….about 30 minutes from Lambeau Field where the GB Packers play. It's nice to know there are a few of us Wisconsinites who enjoy music here!

Hi Dev,

At first I thought you must have quite some patience to leave that beautiful table sitting in it's crate, but then I see your Air Force One sitting there and now I understand how you can do it! Very impressive! Looks like it means business! I can only imagine what your system must sound like. Is it wrong for me to feel a little bit jealous?:) What table did your Air Force One replace?

Thank you for the welcoming socfan12. I wouldn't say that my listening room is huge, but just big enough and is dedicated to my reference system. The Dunlavy's are indeed huge, but they are very special to me. I remember the first time that I heard them at the ProMusica Highend Audio dealer in Chicago. I was just mesmerized by the vocals and piano sound coming from them. I knew instantly that I had to have them and this was before they were reviewed and won numerous awards from the Stereophile mag. It took me some time to save enough cash to be able to buy them, but that is one purchase that I have never had any regrets making!

John Dunlavy was sitting close to them anyway, wider than too far (70° or so), and sitting not far at all from the back wall.
That's how he was listening to his own speakers with friends for critical listening.
...Part of the coherence in his design. ...A great man.

Hello Dev,

Wow, that to me, looks absolutely beautiful (Dev new TT). I just showed my wife and she agrees.
If you happen to remember, could you be so kind to reply here or send me a message as to what your impressions are of it's sonics and speed stability? Boy, even it it only reproduces music half as well as she looks, you'll still have a winner there!

I think Dev's new turntable is a "womanizer", with that gorgeous/attractive wood and design simplicity. ...A beautiful decorative musical piece of art.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. John always recommended having the speakers on the long wall shooting across the short length of the room and that is exactly how I have it. It works very, very well.

John was indeed a great man. I first fell in love with the SCIV's and while saving up the money to be able to buy them, I had the opportunity to make another trip down to Chicago and was able to hear their bigger brother, the SCV in a bigger room. I couldn't believe my ears. What an outstanding speaker! So now I was confused as to which I should get, so I called and talked to Mr. John Dunlavy myself and had a wonderful conversation with him. He said that the SCV was a better speaker than the IV, but only if the room is large enough to handle the SCV. He said in my room that the SCIV would easily outplay and sound much better than the SCV because of the smaller size of my room. You have to consider the room and the speaker and how they interact with one another. If I didn't have that talk with Mr Dunlavy, I could have made a very costly mistake. So, in the end, I made the right decision and bought my first love, the SCIV and have been living happily ever after!

John Dunlavy was a great man who really knew how to build wonderful speakers. He is greatly missed!

I agree 100% with you NorthStar…a work of art, indeed! We all know that the sound a particular piece of gear reproduces is what's most important, but when it can also look as sexy as Dev's new table, well then you really got something special!

Thanks, this table is a special pce to own and I'm very proud too, it's really just that much more so it really didn't replace anything sorta speaking.

The same DESIGNER owner actually worked with Micro Seiki for many years :)

I still have my Micro Seiki 5000 which is an absolutely amazing table and the only one in the WORLD in it's current configuration and when all said and done cost me less than half of the list price of my TW Acustic Raven Black Night table from Germany which is their flagship table which and list for $40 + K

The MS out performed the Black Knight over all - I was shocked! and the speed accuracy is spot on and that's using the SutherLand TimeLine which has caused allot of havoc to other tables out there "it's actually for sale - anyone interested can pm me"

Black Knight table replaced it's smaller brother Raven AC3

No Regets I read you are looking for a table, well this would end your journey look and last you a life time - surpass what you are currently looking at - The MS is just in a whole different league in it's current configuration.

Hi Dev,

Wow, you sure have been blessed to have been able to have so many highly regarded tables! I have read many great things about the MS over the years. I've never seen nor heard one in the flesh, so to speak, before. It looks to be quite large though and although I have yet to make up my mind on which table I'll eventually end up with, I think I may want a smaller footprint which is one of the reasons I like the idea of the Spiral Groove.

I am just in the very beginning stages of this quest, so my ideas may change over time…so in that light I will keep your MS in mind. I'm planning on going to the Axpona Show in Chicago this spring with a focus on tables so probably won't do anything until after that point.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me about the various tables and letting me know about your MS!

Hi No Regrets,

thx, yes the foot print would be a little larger than say the Spiral Groove. SG is a great table but not in the same league, also you can install up to 4 arms on the MS.

The Axpona Show should be fun, if you are one to take pictures please do share.

I was wanting to attend to specifically hear the German Physiks Emperor speakers but the timing just won't work

Hi Dev,

I enjoy photography, so I'd be happy to to share some images with you and everyone here.

It seems as though you've had much experience with many great tables. Have you owned the Spiral Groove too? I'm curious in what manner your MS is in a different league than the SG? Please understand that I am not trying to sound as if I am trying to debate or disagree with your opinion, but rather I am simply trying to learn and understand from your experiences.:)

Welcome to AS No Regrets...:hi:

You have a wonderful system and those Dunlavys are super nice as is the rest of your equipment. By the way, in case the woofer surrounds do go at some point (which probably won't happen for many more years given rubber surround), you can still have them replaced and keep your SCIVs (i.e., no need to replace). Welcome again!

Thank you cmalak for the very kind words and warm welcome! It's reassuring that the surrounds could be replaced if needed at some point in the future.

Thanks again!

Hi No Regrets,

that will be great - look forward to viewing those pics.

Yes, SG1 + Centroid tonearm + A90 My opinion; the SG is a marvelous table, speed accuracy great and very musical sounding. When I used the word "different league" the sonic offerings I enjoyed over all while listening were just surpassed with the MS, the music was more realistic sounding, offered a lower floor noise, better separation and focus, bass over all sounded and felt more realistic, images more precise with air around them and 3D, top end was glorious - so clear - hence my choice of words. One area nice about the SG is it's pretty well plug and play - MS more involved, takes a little effort but once set-up just enjoy!

Hi Dev, thank you for taking the time to tell me more about these two tables. It seems as though the MS would be a great table. I don't mind a table that might be a little more involved, as my LP12 is about as involved as she gets….but I have to admit, the simplicity of the plug and play aspect of the SG is appealing as well as its small footprint.

I'd also be curious how you feel your new table compares once you uncrate her.

By the way, I saw your advertisement for your MS. Looks very special indeed. It will make someone a great table, I am sure!

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me!
