Great CD, and the ebay vinyl just got delivered today, woohoo!:celebrate008_2:

Absolutely wonderful album, both from performance and sonics. I bought the album (vinyl) when it first came out, many years ago. Then a couple of years ago, the Tape Project issued the album as one of its releases, so I also have the 15 ips, 2 track version of the album - only two generations from the master tape.

Bach Partitas and Sonatas for unaccompained violin - Capitol green & gold FDS PCR8370:

This mono Milstein 3 LP box set appears to have not been played....until now.

p.s. I lied. Damn. I flipped the #1 LP over to play and see there is a needle-bounce mark. Crap. Have to see if it's audible or not.

p.p.s. ZERO issues tracing that section. Not a tick or pop. Sweet.

Nice Bob!

Are the Esoteric (SA)CDs worth the price of admission? I see one ebay seller selling an Esoteric LP for $1,000!!

Nice Allen! Please let us know how the LP sounds too.

Did you figure out your direction for phono stage yet?

Bob, not yet, but playing around with a few ideas.

I'll send you this CD as well. I love the music and the sonics. LMK what you think when you get it.

Larry, how does the vinyl compare to the tape version? I find the sonics on the CD incredible. I can't wait to spin it on vinyl and can only imagine how much better it must be on tape!

The few I have listened to are excellent. I used to have a Beethoven Overtures one that was amazing. Sadly it seems to have disappeared :(

Hi Allen,

Would love to listen to the Liszt! Thanks in advance and I'll certainly let you know what I think of it.

The tape is fabulous! (even better than the vinyl). You can see in the description of the tape, that the original master was done in analogue on Keith Johnson's special custom made tape recorder, back in 1987. For the Tape Project, Paul Stubblebine, then created his 1" tape master using his big Ampex, dubbing directly from Keith's original master tape, played back on Keith's custom tape machine, no signal processing between the machines. So far, most of the classical tapes that Tape Project have released have been from original analogue masters done by Keith Johnson for Reference Records. A couple more outstanding ones are the Arnold Overtures, and Exotic Dances (which has been recently mastered in vinyl by RR - Paul Stubblebine did the vinyl mastering). Exotic Dances was originally released as a CD and, IIRC, was recorded in both digital and analogue.

Nojima also recorded a Ravel album for Reference (not done by Tape Project). It was also analogue, released in vinyl and I am sure CD also.

Piston No. 6, Martinu Fantaisies Symponiques No. 6, Munch & BSO - RCA Maroon shaded dog 1S-A1 & 1S-A1 LM-2083:

This is such a fine sounding LP. Quiet vinyl background. Subtle, yet full orchestra. Great depth and width. Dynamics in spades when called for. Mono.
