Where's all the Shindo owners?

Question: could you run 4ohm speakers on a pair of Shindo amps? Maybe a pair of CCQ's for example? I know most, if not all, Shindo amps are rated for 8ohms and above...but I'm just curious.

Depends on your definition of work, I'd imagine. If you're interested, ask JH and get ready for a thorough discussion of reflected impedance or something like that.

Is there an Audio Research forum. I'm going to start a fight there? I bought a Ref 5 preamp and AR dac once here from the AD in Chicago. That dealer didn't do anything but take the order. No small talk. No talk about my system, the use of the gear, component matching. Nothing. He even made me drive out to pick up the gear. I appreciate the efforts of dealers who provide assistance and guidance.

I inquired with a local dealer about a used 10k Luxman integrated to swing by for a demo- he wanted to charge me $250 for his time since it was on consignment.

Man alive.... First of all I never claimed to be neutral. I'm doing my best to act in a relatively neutral fashion to avoid conflict here like the last place. But, no, I'm not neutral. I happen to like Shindo and think that people who do not listen to the advice of Shindo reps are wrong. Do you want to have a discussion about the merits of the gear? I can do that. I've owned Montille, Sinhonia, GM70, Aurigies, Aurigies phono, VR, vintage Model 77, Monbrison, and have used them on at least 8 different speakers including FC Latour and...gasp...Tannoy.

Kev- I'd love to hear what you thought of the Sinhonia vs GM70. Ive stewed on those Sinhonias several times.

Of course you could. With generally less than optimum results. The bigger question would be 'why would you want to?'.
4 ohm speakers usually have pretty wild impedance curves and most dip well below 4. Thus they crave power.

To get proper results even with the CCQ's a minimum of 8 ohm's should be used. As I understand it they were designed for 8 ohm's minimum but can be used with speakers that are not necessarily highly sensitive, say low 90's for example.
Jonathan of course would be able to give the definitive answer.

I have read through all of the Shindo threads, many with amusement about being banned. In the end the longer term members of this forum have tried to have multiple threads about the merits of Shindo's gear as opposed to other brands. In each in every thread banned members from another forum have joined in and told us that we have hearing problems, judgement problems or that "our equipment" was not up to the standard to be used with Shindo gear. That is not how I thought we operated here and if I am wrong then Mike will tell me. You like what you like, but others don't or would like to try but the distributor is telling them they can't or are a liar when they said that the combo they heard worked. You guys can be fan boys all you want, but use some degree of moderation. Many of us have been doing this as long or longer that you have and listen first before we judge.
I just don't like "fanboys."

At last a sane judgement is written---

Kudos Jack you nailed it!

Yep. Except for all of the parts that Jack was totally wrong, he was ... err ... Engaging in the same sort of behavior of which he complains. Not that that left a lot of room.

Really? I am here for a few days, and I see this? You come on a Shindo forum and just throw around this type of ignorance?

Have the good manners to stay away then.

I like listening to music not wanting to read this ignorance from what appears to be trolls.

I am not a fan of big amps and Wilson or SF speakers, even though I used to own them. But I don't go on those forums and post trash or call them fanboys. Same with the new MacIntosh gear, etc.

It's too bad you deprive others who honestly want to learn more.

The few that matter here have my email, let me know if it's ever interesting enough to come back or go somewhere else.

Wow Chill dudes-- you need to calm the waters--no offense to any of you--I did feel the truth in some of Jacks statements he quoted that's all and indeed NO POINTING PAWS at any poster here--hell after 60 years an Audiophile I am a fanboy for some products as well:D

so cool it guys and cut us a little slack--a troll I most certainly ain't:(

I have no qualms with everyone bashing heads over comments--vigorous debate is good for the adrenalin rush

I am a Shindo owner myself by the way

Respectfully

Bruce

So an other Shindo thread turning into a mess.
Seems that some people just exported their aggressive behavior from AA to AS.
And the beat goes on....

In fact, at the risk of inviting a response, I just reread this thread and it seems that Shindo owners who've been banned from AA, have provided some of the most balanced, detailed, and thorough discussion of all facets of the Shindo experience. Although it seems to be assumed that we are cultish stone throwers, I think to a man we have pointed out that we respect others preferences, although we may disagree with the approach. Some have difficulty returning that courtesy. Or perhaps our posts are not sufficiently appreciated.

To me, it seems quite the opposite. It feels as if people want to tell the Shindo owners that we have no right to disagree with those who dispute the recommended use of the gear.

You brought your passive aggressive posts with you too.

Why can't you guys let the "I got banned from AA" thing go and move on. It seems that it has become a "badge of honor." If you know who the owner is and what they do and don't like it then just walk away. Don't stir the pot until they run you off. Getting banned by Ivan and then bragging about it is not a plus in my mind. It means you knew the rules, didn't like them and then decided to stay and challenge them instead of just leaving.

I still don't know why I was banned. Capricious at best.

I listened to Shindo gear at dealer in NYC. Great shop and really knowledgeable nice dealer and staff with killer vinyl shop upstairs.

I thought shindo gear and speakers were beautiful pieces and would be the sort of gear that appreciates and doubles in value so good investment.

To my ears they sounded too thick and syrupy (but hey I owned Maggies at the time). I would bet shindo Aficianados have similar ears and tastes in wanting liquidity and zero edge or harshness to their music. They appreciate the flow and beauty of music. Master tape truth seekers being at other end of the spectrum.

Jerome,
So my last post in this thread suggested it be closed and we start fresh. But no you come along and stir the pot.

If someone/anyone does not like a post, please IGNORE it and move past it. I beg you. If you want to report it, that's fine. Then it's up to us or "the management" to do something about it. Thank you.

I try. Lord knows I try. Sometimes it is just too hard to ignore.
