The movie itself was one of suspense in space (spatially grabbing). And the
denouement was encapsulating and invigorating (in a radical and dimensional sense).
Sandra was all by herself in a survival mode for the bulk of the entire film. ...She managed to fight all the elements and obstacles with great spiritual strength and physical power. ...She went true several corridors and in all that space of jazz.
Picture quality wasn't as good as it is at home on my own screen; because that IMAX screen is fifty-three (52.8) feet high and seventy-two (72) feet in width, so the size of the pixels (digitally shot with 2K cameras, and natively in 3D; and not with an IMAX camera) are quite large. ...Also, because it is a passive 3D experience and the glasses, it isn't as good and resolute as 3D active (I could see the horizontal lines plus few other glitches attributed to 3D passive). Remember; this film is mainly CGI (almost $100 millions of it).
* At home on my plasma screen, 3D active is better. ...Much better to my critical artistic eyes.
{The biggest IMAX screen is ninety-eight (98) feet high.} ...And the best sound is from Dolby Atmos theaters.
So, the very best sound and picture is from a true IMAX theater equipped with Dolby Atmos.
...Two front projectors, and 4K Ultra High Definition. ...Even better, 8K, and 16K (but no such thing yet); and 64 speakers with 8 subwoofers (Dolby Atmos). ...All
discrete surround channels by the way.
But we can't deny the sheer size of an IMAX (true IMAX screen here) theater, and the reference level sound.
BTW, the surround speakers are positioned roughly ten feet high (perhaps even 12'), and I counted twelve of them. I couldn't see the front soundstage speakers, as they are behind the screen. ...And the center channel speaker I could tell (hear) that it was a large one and of good quality (nicely articulated and ambient dialogue; representative of actual real space atmosphere). ...What do I know about sound in space?!!
BUT! At home I can also play at reference volume level (with my couch vibrating, and my body pulsating). My surround sound system setup is able to do that, no sweat, even in a 3,000 cubic feet space.
AND! I can also sit 6 feet (even 5') from my 60" screen to have a field of view almost large as an IMAX screen. ...It all depends of your seating distance, in the goal of aiming at a roughly 40 degree wide viewing angle. ...Larger than that and you don't see what's going on at the left and right of the screen.
And it is the same in a theater; the closer you sit the more you miss, and if you sit at the back, you see everything onscreen (by the way, we were seated in the hot seats; Row E, from the second level, and center).
{With music it's the same; primordial are speakers and listener positioning.}
Because it is a film that took place in space, radically as we are kind of floating with the two main actors, the experience is quite unique and cool.
But for me it is the music score (by
Steven Price) from this original motion picture soundtrack that is the best feat/feast of all.
I simply loved it! ... Click =>
Gravity Soundtrack
In this case here (this particular film), for me, the music is 70% (60-70; 66%) of the total overall experience.
...Most films (average) it is roughly 50/50, and with some flicks being less, like 30% or so.
-> As you can see, the music, and the motion picture (quality cinematography) are two very important elements for me. So is the storyline, the acting, the locales (space), and last the green screen elements (CGI effects).

<<<>>> Go see it, it's worth it Mike! ...And I don't want to give too much.
...Like the end for example, and the sacrifice ... because without it there is no end.
- It's a short movie, just under 90 minutes; it flows nicely and smoothly.
Last, there are some nice philosophical lines; always a plus for me.
