Only 75 ever made, one of the rarest turntable on the Planet, this is a no-compromise Masterpiece designed to last a lifetime and to provide its privilege owner with the smoothness and dynamics that can only be attained with the excruciating precision engineering combined with a 30 Kg platter driven by a high precision, analog controlled motor and world class external power supply. Hand-made in Germany. - Pre-Owned is only choice -

Personally, I think this one is quite cute. :) ...Looks solid too (well built), and the color is happy blue.

I have recommended to Paul that he consider a Canadian made, Kronos. Paul lives in Canada, the Kronos is made in Canada. I HAVE heard the Kronos multiple times - so I feel comfortable recommending it. I am also still planning on getting one myself. The original Kronos at a discount or the new Kronos Sparta are excellent choices IMO.

Now you are on the right voie lactee Mike! ...Wow, she looks real serious! ...And gorgeous!
And she's Canadian too? ...I've heard that name before; Kronos - directly from space, over the Canadian sky.

Paul, can you afford such beauty? :)

Paul, bottom line is that ANY of your choices would probably sound fantastic, with the right cartridge and phono stage. The only difference is looks and $$$ to spend. You would never know that there was a difference (or that you might be missing something) unless you actually had 2 of them side by side.

Enjoy the hunt.

Paul, hop on a plane and get your butt over to Jeff's! I'm pretty sure you won't go home empty handed!:P

...Two, three, four, five of them side by side.

Or! Only one but with five tonearms attached to it! :)

I have a Bardo with Origin Live combo making all sorts of good music tonight :)

at this price level, go for what looks best and your heart is set on. There isnt a bad option. I wanted direct drive making the choice easy.

What did you find?

I spent way too much time on the road today.... Went to two dealerships and listened about 6 different tables.

They all sounded great and nice looking too. My journey continues for few more days. :)

Paul, not to make life hard on you but I wouldn't be a wise axe without mentioning a turntable that is rated Class A in Stereophile's Recommended Components; one of our audio's bibles. ...And which is available today @ a MSRP (US) of $6,000 - the VPI Classic 3 ::

page-classic-3.jpg

* There must be a valid reason on why she is in the Class A of Stereophile.
And! Also in the same class A as the VPI Classic 3 is the Audiostone Pythagoras ($77,140), without tonearm!

And you know what else? ...She looks very elegant and solidly dead serious at spinning records in the most musical and pleasurable way. ...Like a recording becomes a musical live performance.

- You must have read this review I bet: Stereophile.com

Me I know nothing about the sound coming from it. I have zero personal experience. I'm just a simple audio reporter who reports what his nose is smelling. And if I was shopping for a TT myself, in that neighborhood price range and class, I would certainly try my best in auditioning one. ...And seek further solid comments and serious advice on that TT.

Now you can ask the other members here who have first hand personal experience with that table their say.

its all personal oppinion Bob, for me loads of experience listening to all vpi has to offer and owning several. and most of the places i go to are vpi dealers i have heard all there tables with all sorts of different cartridges. hell, they are built right down the road from me. buuuut ,when it was time to upgrade my classic 1 i didnt go the classic3 route(which was my original plan)maybe it is because i wanted something different, but hearing a few other tables that i loved and picking the only one i could afford of that bunch and it coming available as a demo at the same time. pushed me in another direction. dont get me wrong ive always loved vpi. but perhaps im just bored of them, no matter how good one is over the other ,they all kinda have the same sound and tendencys to em.
i think pauls really nice equipment deserves an AMG, or a Spiral groove, or something that he wont think about upgrading for years to come.
and plus if you travel around an listen to a bunch of different tables the odd are pretty good that a deal on something you never expected will fall right in your lap.

Paul,

I recently got back into vinyl, and pulled the trigger on the AMG table with a Benz cartridge. I found that there are so many good choices out there at all price ranges. it all comes down to what you think sounds good within your budget. Unfortunately, having the opportunity to listen to various tables/cartridges in one's own system is usually limited. Good luck with your search.
