StillPoint Ultra 5's

Mike. the only other consideration for ordering the bases is if you have an uneven floor, even pressure is needed when they are placed under the speakers, otherwise not needed.

It's thick carpet on a subfloor. Thoughts?

don't use the bases. I use mine on medium pile rug with a pad on concrete basement floor. The ultra's wiggle a bit on their bearings to compensate for slightly uneven flooring. It is important to leave about a 1/4" between the stillpoint and the bottom of the speaker otherwise their effectiveness is diminished.

no bases! - did you actually view my pic's because it clearly shows carpet, also if ones floors are uneven just make any necessary adjustments by adjusting one or two of these 5's

My process was to tighten and then back off a half turn, looking close there seems to be a slight air space. You are suggesting to leave substantially more, I might have to do some comparisons now to see if I hear any variances

Ah, so even on a concrete floor, you still hear a substantial improvement in sound, Christian?

as long as they don't make contact you are fine. I just gave myself more margin for slight leveling wiggle room.

yes, you would be surprised how much vibration is transferred through concrete...including that by home mechanicals such as a furnace, ect. My table stable active isolation table senses my foot falls or even tapping my foot near the rack. Think low frequency vibrations. Even the duct work in the home transmits low frequency vibrations when in use.

It's been so long I had to check - need to make a correction to the process I provided earlier. I now recall that I actually used a spark plug gage tool, looking the space appears to be approx a 3/8" inch gap :)

I fully agree and most really don't know or realize, even more so when ones system is placed on a second floor with wood construction and a basement below.

One of the reason why isolation products make a difference.

Mike, Ultra SS's will get you near but not in the same ballpark as the 5's, a lot cheaper too. You can put the Ultra SS's under your speakers as well, the 5's were originally designed for a grand piano.

What can I use under my Dag amps and preamp? They already have their own stands.

I have amp stands for my mono's. I use stillpoints ultra5's under them on the stands. Made a difference for my amps.

Do you have Dan's amp stands for the Momentums? The feet unscrew, so maybe there is a Stillpoint option to screw in there??

Thanks, Christian. Sounds like something I need to put on my must buy list.

No I use Adona GXT stands. I balance each amp on 3 of them in a tripod configuration. Saved me the cost of two additional ultra 5's. I tried 4 per amp originally, but the bottom of the amp is not perfectly flat so the amp would not make full contact with one of the ultra's. You don't encounter that issue when they balance on 3 of them. I think there is more benefit with the stillpoint making direct contact with the amp to drain internal vibrations versus on the feet of the amp stand.

Thanks Christian. I'll have to think about how to employ the use of stillpoints best on the amps and preamp. Definitely going to put some under the speakers and source.

If you want me to ask Bruce Jacobs ( He is the MAN behind Stillpoints) a question send me a PM and I will give it directly to Him next Thursday.
He is coming to Dominican Republic for training and Demonstration for my clients.
Mike you are more than welcome to come, as always.
Will be a nice weekend playing with our toys

:)

Nelson - I would love to be there, but my wife has decided to return to University, so things are a little upside down - to say the least.

Ask him if we can get them in black and what he recommends for Dag amps/preamps using Dag amp and preamp stands. Thanks!

I use ultra SS in three's under all rack components and I also use the LP1 puck on top of each rack component, including my amps. The full stillpoint's experience can get rather pricey.
