New Magico speakers arriving 04/2015!

Actually the S3 uses the outrigger too. I once asked Alon why he didn't use the same thing with the S5 and he replied that he like the "cleaner" look without the outrigger. Obviously he had a change of heart with the S7.
It is exciting to see the newer M Pro outriggers used in the S series for the first time however :).

The "tapered" look is a trademark of the S series. As Alon shared, this shape helps with internal reflections within the cabinet.
Myles, I think Peter was referring to the tapered top plate of the S7 which was first introduced in the M Pro, not the tapered side panels. I agree it's terrific to see Magico leveraging their design capacity to filter down technology from their flagship speakers.

I look at the S7 as half the price of the M Pro, making it a bargain on paper atleast. Time will tell..

David-my point is that if Alon made a S5 Mk. II using these drivers, the price would have to go up considerably.

I think its a beautiful looking speaker. It is going to require a large room with 3 10" drivers and the resulting prodigious bass. It appears to go right after Wilson's popular Alexia in giving you more for the same price.

I'm not sure about the M Gloss though. I think Wilson has a better looking paint job.

The Q-series cabinet has a different shape and more/different advantages not counting the differences in internal bracing. The Q-7 IIRC is comprised of 1000 parts that are neatly categorized on their computer system. The interesting thing to really note is how Magico is really optimizing the CAD system for the design of their speakers.

Yes, I meant the S7 outrigger feet look more like the design of those in the M Project. Though it is interesting that they are not bolted onto the bottom plate. With the S7, the feet are integral to the bottom plate. It looks like one piece of metal. On the other S series, the outriggers look bolted on from the bottom.

Regarding the top plate, I'm talking about how the S7 top plate tapers toward the rear, that is, it is thicker in the front than it is in the back. The S5, S3 and S1 top plates do not actually do that. They are all one uniform thickness. This is another feature of the M Project. I'm not actually talking about the "tapered" look of the S series, or curved sides. That was begun with the Mini speaker. I'm talking about the section through the actual top plate of the speaker. Take another look and you will notice how it differs from the rest of the S series top plates.

Good pickup Peter, I hadn't paid much attention to that design feature before to be honest. That just shows how Magico never stand still. Me likey! :woot:.

Wow- I think we need to over-analyze every detail of the speaker nobody has heard even more :)

I think these are gorgeous. I have no need for a pair but I want them anyway.... in the red color, please. :D

Hi Ian,

I hope all is well with you. How are things going with your M-Projects? Have you been able to isolate the cause of your bass issue?

Best,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for asking. As a matter of fact, I think I have found the culprit. The short story is that my amps were starved for power (under spec'd isolation transformer feeding my amp outlets).

I'm now using heavy duty 10 gauge extension cords so that I can plug my amps into different outlets until I get an electrician over and the difference is not subtle. Lots of bass/body/meat-on-the-bones with a more normal tonal balance now!

Great to hear Ian!

Ian, that's fantastic news ! I know you've been a little bit frustrated. Here's hoping that all is good now.
