New Magico speakers arriving 04/2015!

The problem with Magico/Vitus in the states is really the lack of Vitus distribution around here. I think Dart 458s would be dream amps for the top Magicos, personally.

Not talked about as much around here as Pass at the lower price points, but BAT SS might work very well with Magico.

Yeah i've heard that Keith. It doesn't help that many audiophile's impressions over there are based mostly or entirely on show conditions. I thought the Dart NHB-108 sounded a bit lean with the S5's, but no doubt the 458's would be a different animal altogether. I would think given their price point, the 458's would most likely be matched with the M Pro's or Q7's.

Well said. I have emailed Vitus in the past regarding this and their answers were quite coy and elusive. They truly need proper distribution and a proper U.S. dealer network.

Well Mike, for coy and elusive , nothing beats Gryphon . Must be a Danish thing....

Speaking of elusive - any news on Melco in North America?

Here is what Melco told me last month:

"Hello Michael –

Early days for us outside of Japan at the moment as we get established in Europe.

We will be dealing with USA Distribution over the next couple of months for sure and will be delighted to contact you again at that time.

I have a team in mind – just lots to do as you might imagine!

Best

Alan"

Honestly, as good as the Melco product might be, I'm totally sold on Aurender after comparing it to Auralic. The Aurender product is built like a tank, sounds amazing, the app is outstanding and they are very leading edge. Love the Tidal integration too! I just don't know if Melco will have the R&D and genius behind their products like I'm seeing from Aurender.

+1 Mike - we're singing in the same choir , making sweet music :D

Aurender = Surrender ( resistance is futile )

BTW. I have a question for Soulution guys - We already know the S7 model specification. Is the 711 sufficient enough for a large room? I know that it is up to 300W/4Ohm and I know that Soulution is the most efficient amplifier on the market. But the pair of S7 have 6 10inches bass drivers. I even omit 701 model. 155k$ for 60k$ speakers is... misunderstanding and above my range.

Sorry my mistake. :(

But you have heard the Magico at Goodwins right?

Yes, I have heard the Magico V2, Mini 2, Q1, Q3, Q5, Q7, and S5 at Goodwins. Most were paired with Spectral/MIT, though the most convincing, IMO, was the Q3 with giant Boulder mono blocks and their Basis turntable in the big room.

Now there's another amp no one mentioned to pair with the Magicos. I heard the Boulder amps a while ago driving the Q1 at Ears Nova in NY. (I also heard them acquit themselves well at Ken Goldens driving his Rockports.) Couldn't say much here because the setup was weird eg. the speakers were a mile apart.

I am currently using the Soulution 711 Stereo Amp to drive the 7' tall Raidho D5's. These speakers are purported to have a sensitivity of 87 db. The 711 is rated at:

150 watts into 8 ohms
300 watts into 4 ohms
600 watts into 2 ohms

This does not tell the whole story though. The 711 has an impulse power rating of more than 6,000 watts and a peak current rating of more than 120 amperes. It has massive capacitance in excess of one million microfarads.

To answer your question I believe the 711 plays plenty loud. My dedicated listening room is 18' x 28' and I've measured SPL's in excess of 100 db for sustained periods of time. There is no distortion at these sound levels and no sign that the amp is running out of steam.

I have also heard the Soulution 701's in the same listening room.

I rarely listened over 90 db. I want to saved what hearing I have left :D

I use Krell monos on my Q3. They are on the warm side of neutral, but very reveling and musical. Great combo in my ears!

Make sure you fasten your seatbelt.
Ok :D I know that 711 is top 5 best SS amps on the market, but the question is... if this amplifier will play well with the Magico? Either way - whether the sound will go in to my taste?
On the other hand I think for a few days that maybe Magico speakers are the big problem. These speakers are terribly fickle, they play good only with a few amps. Nowadays there is easier to find hiper detailed fast and transparent amps (Like Soulution) than find good amp fo Magicos. For example we can take Raidhos, Focals, TADs, Rockports, maybe super praised for years, but poorly accessible Zellatons and many great others, then connect them with Soulution (and many others) and we have many MANY ways for similar efects like with capricious Magico speakers. And I say that as S5 owner. Ok, we will see, the future is bright and hopefull :)
PS. Sorry for my fancy English :)

Hi Vagabundo,

It's all very subjective. Some love the Magico with Soulution and some find it uninspiring. The only way you'll know is if you hear it for yourself. David loves his Magico S5's with Vitus and a number of others love the Pass Labs with Magico, so I believe there are several different flavors to be explored.

Best of luck,
Ken

These must be the older Krells (FPB series or older?) as the newer Krells (Evo line) are fairly neutral. Strong and dynamic as ever, but very neutral in tonality.

Totally agree, Ken! I use CH Precision A1 amp with my S5 and I love the combination. A touch of warmth would be nice, but just a touch. But as you say, we all have different tastebuds...
