Based on everyone’s feedback, I have decided to stick with the ethernet renderer input module for my MSB Premier, which rules out the Lumin U1.
So my decision now is whether to go for the Roon Nucleus + or the Innuos Zenith. From what I can gather, the biggest advantage the Nucleus (both models) has over the Zenith is its superior processor - but I understand that this is relevant only if I wanted to do DSD upsampling, otherwise with Roon installed on the Zenith I am told that it will be more than capable of running Roon (the Zenith is a Roon-certified hardware partner). If anyone thinks that the Nucleus + has additional advantages I would be grateful to hear from you.
The key advantages of the Zenith over the Nucleus appear to be (ignoring the built-in CD ripper, which is not a priority for me but would be a cherry on top):
* Flexibility - Can use it as a Roon Core OR can run off its own software and stream Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify and access my NAS (which, if I buy the Zenith with a 1 TB SSD drive, I would end up using primarily as a back up).
* Power supply - Appears to have superior power supply over the Nucleus.
* Includes an SSD drive - Adding a 1 TB SSD drive to the Nucleus + (probably all I would need) would mean the pricing of the two units would be about the same.
* Can connect via ethernet cable directly to the MSB Premier; signals from the Nucleus + would need to be sent to my MSB Premier via my router. Not sure how much of an advantage this direct path is - hopefully others can chime in here.
Are there any Roon users who use the DSD upsampling function?
