Lampizator Golden Gate

I have heard very good things about the TAK 274B, but no direct comparisons to the WE tube... But, well, it costs as much as a WE 274B last I checked.

I wasn't refuting your comment. I was just providing data. The USD/Yen relationship is excellent for us right now.

What about the Brimar 5z4g?

A poster at CA forum loves it, says it beats the WE 422a.

I use a 5V4G and love it. Tremendous 3D. I still need to experiment but every tube change brings wonderful changes to my system.

I can appreciate why Tubes in a DAC makes sense.... They are perfectly imperfect. :D

Lol. That kind of summarises the Lampi sound IMHO. I would not pretend that I am listening to a perfectly measuring device, but through magnificent technicolor that somehow transports me closer to the event than the distortionless designs. No idea how the Lampi does that magic holographic 3d thing that no other can, but it is so addictive once heard that going back to a flat world is very hard. Sometimes we audiophiles (me included) can get lost in measurements and the science and forget that the whole darned hobby is about enjoyment and good times appreciating the wonderful art form that is music.

Toward the end, the 5Z4 and 5V4 from Brimar were the same tube. I have tested some on my Utracer and they test identical. Not sure on earlier ones.

Hi All,

I am currently running a Soulution 520 preamp and 501 mono amps. The system is somewhat of a hybrid as it is unbalanced from the source to the 520 preamp (regardless of whether you use the 520 preamp's RCA or XLR inputs) and balanced from the 520 preamp to the 501 mono amps.

My question is, if I connect a balanced Lampi Golden Gate to the 520 preamp, will the balanced Lampi GG utilize all four of its output tubes or only two of them? If the answer is only two output tubes, then it seems like a waste of money to go for the balanced GG over the SE GG as long as the 520 preamp is in the signal chain.

Thanks,
Ken

The good thing is the Balanced Lampi can also be run SE, and the balanced reserved for flexibility. Alternately, you can buy SE and the upgrade to Balanced if required is easy

Thanks guys for your feedback. It comes back to an interview I read where Lukasz stated that for optimal performance, a system should be fully balanced from end to end or single-ended throughout. No tomatoes please but Soulution making their preamps unbalanced and amps balanced is a major design compromise in my opinion, as it cannot take full advantage of the performance of a component such as the balanced Lampi GG.

I still believe you will fully benefit from a balanced GG in your system. I have no doubt in my mind that all the advantages will be evident. At this point, the price difference is insignificant. My GG is simply amazing. I personally have no desire to change a thing, dac-wise, anymore.

Yes, you can bypass the preamp, and that is why Lukasz said it was OK.You have the flexibility of using it as SE with the Soul preamp, or straight to your power amps, if you get the vol control option.

If you want to use your preamp always, then SE is the way to go. Bal gives you more flexibility. Recall that you get at least 1 analog input on the GG, so vol control option is desirable.

Hi All,

i just ordered a set of EML Mesh 300b's for my SE GG. I noticed on the back of the unit that 300b is crossed out. Anyone else have the same label that can tell me why it is x'd out?
