Lampizator Golden Gate

Yup, gotta extend the tube life of those pricey Western Electric vintage bottles for as long as possible.

There is a manual????

Well, I also just don't like burning electricity for no good reason. The heaters on all the time, so I can listen for 3-4 hours a night seems excessive. I will have to see. That said, I just scored (assuming the post does not lose them), two more 274bs. They were made by WE for Electronics Enterprises Inc. We will see how they are. 3 of those and I should be good. I have loaned a pair of my beloved 275As to Fred. So far, for most music, I like them better than my 70s WE 300Bs. In my Big 7, it was the other way around. Here are my current rankings on rectifiers:

Rectifiers:
1. WE 274B
2. Fivre 5R4GY with ceramic heater isolaters
3./4./5./6. (all tied) WE 422A/Sylvania 274B/ Brimar 5V4G/ U52 [Sometimes labeled 5U4G] by Brimar/OSRAM/GEC
7./8./9.(all tied) Mullard 5AR4/Sylvania VT-244/ RCA JAN 5R4GY/ KEN-RAD Jan 5R4GY
10. Chinese 274B that came stock on the Big 7
11. Generic US made 5R4GY/5U4G/5U4GB

I have a few others to try...The hard one for me to get around is the 422A. I have two of these. It sounds awesome one song, but not as great the next. Often it is based on the music I am listening to. It moves up and down my list. The Fivre was the surprise. It shocked me that it sounded so good.
Output tubes, I will hold my tongue. I use only WE (VT-52, 100D, 275A and 300Bs) or a pair of Brimar 6A3s. More on those if any of you care,

Wait... you mean I gotta give 'em back

Can't wait to give 'em a listen tonight.

LampizatOr The Lite 7 DSD DAC | AudioStream

Lite 7 review.

Great writeup on the Lampizator Lite 7 DSD DAC on Audiostream.
Here's the answer to the big question everyone seems to want to ask:

I bet you're wondering what DAC chip Lukasz settled on for the Lite 7. Me too. Here's Lukasz:

What we found is that the chip-set sound is: 10 % DAC chip choice, 50 % receiver chip choice, 20 % receiver-DAC connection interface and 20 % power supply construction. Yes, the DAC chip choice - from worst case to best case scenarios could affect only 10% on the subjective scale of sound quality. We took the time and effort to test every chip we could buy or find in old products, it was close to 100 chips that we tested in similar condition and without output stage influence. That explains why we don’t disclose the DACchip name. We simply don’t want to be pigeon-holed by ignorant people, based on our choices.

I hope you're getting a picture of what I read to be a straight-forward, opinionated (which we want our designers to be), no nonsense approach to product design. Fikus is an electrical engineer with a specialty in power distribution and a major in High Voltage Physics and he has a lot more to say about his approach so I recommend heading over to the LampizatOr website for more of his story.

LoL
Care to donate those 300Bs to a B7 charity case? I couldnt find the Fivre, but I did find similar double Mica 5r4s and am yet to try them. I assume you dont mean these:

Did you ever try Philips Metal base GZ34? I love those....

My metal 5AR4 was eaten by the USPS with a 101d. Then a matched fat base pair of Mullard 5AR4s. They cannot find the tubes.

That is the ceramic spacer 5R4 I mean. Haltron was a big rebrander. I bought 4 from Morocco. They came smashed. Got a refund and got two for the price I paid for the 4. Sigh.

Tonight I try the Dario GZ32. I will live with it a few days before commenting.

Sorry to hear that Shawn.

I have 5y3 and 5v4g from the Barn to try...

Most 5Y3s suck in my experience. No offense to the fans and it will probably work in Lampi gear since it runs tubes conservatively, but, to me, they run hot, have a short life and don't give you enough B+ in amp duty. 5U4G will be superior to it (again IME).

And to be clear, the WE made 274B is pretty far ahead of the others. It really adds to the soundstage and the 3D nature of the experience. The Fivre does a lot of things right. It doesn't fill the bottom out as well as the WE and is not as 3D, but it has great balance, high end and detail.

Has anyone tried these tubes?

I wonder if they differ from the Psvane WE Replica 300b's??

Hi, I'm looking for some feedback on the Takatsuki 274b rectifiers - has anyone here tried them in either a GG or B7?

Thanks for your kind welcome Joe. Wisnon sent me here in the pursuit of knowledge :-)

I saw your post on WBF, sorry it took me so long to realize you were here.

I hope someone can help with your question. I have to believe the Takatsuki will be wonderful.

What about Takatsuki as a recti?

Pass!--

--I was simply spruiking the performance of the Brand-- in my case Power Tubes--which is indeed superb and if the house sound relates

to the other products in the range that would be beyond reproach.

The only rectifier tube I've used in my previous Dac (ANote Dac 5) was the Bendix

Bruce

ok Bruce. Mike also said the 300Bs were great, but I have never seen a recti plug, at least not so far.
