Lampizator Big 7 Review

Paul, the Lampi Big 7 was in another league than my PS DS. As I said, like comparing a Classe amp to a Kondo or Shindo. The Classe amp is fine in its own right, but Kondo/Shindo....whole 'nother league.

Mike, I am not comparing the PS DS to Lampi was just wondering about the update service.

I have heard the old Kondo dac, must be the KSL. It used to be 35k GBP in 2000, I heard it recently with a CEC TLX transport and Kondo pre going into a pair of Apogee Duetta Sigs with CJ monos. Didn't compare, but I think those dacs might be outdated.

Wonder if he tracks this one:

He has only been trying to help by answering your questions.

Maybe try targeting the best for your budget rather than your current approach. In the sub-$5000 range, I suspect you will have trouble finding better than a Lampi DSD.

Never seen that page and am not in the market for a used Lampi, so why would I care?
I talk about what i know and what interests me.Period.

Hence you see me commenting a lot on the Job amps, Illusonic processors, iFi Audio, Uptone Regen, Dartzeel gear, especially the LHC-208, CH gear, Devialet phantom, and anything HEIL. I also talk about vintage tubes.

For simplicity, I am going to try a WinBOOK 801let PC running Windows 8.1 (with AO) ouputting via full size USB to the Corning cable and Regen device then to the Dac.

Got your Regen already ? I'm still waiting for mine ... my order was #036 :(

Not yet…it went to my inlaws who will send to Chicago for my wife to pick up next week. Complicated. I do have the Corning already though...

I may also try a Win10 install on the tablet…good thing coming in that direction. Wink, wink...

Mastek, I have never heard the Analog Dac, just AL's Platinum stack with upgraded Galaxy 2 clocks. The Paltinum goes toe to toe with older Big 7 that Al had from last year. DSD from Lampi wins, and PCM was close and could go either way. I personally prefer the Lampi PCM, but would not argue strongly if anone went the other way.

Have not heard the Lite 7 either, but have seen some stellar feedback. If that is to be believed (and I do) then it will certainly best the Analog to my mind…certainly for DSD and very likely for PCM. Lampi "over the top" power supply design alone should ensure that, as the Analog would have to come with the optional PSU unit to even be in the game.
Having said all that, I personally love the Lampi sound. YMMV though.

@MDP

thank you guys. This forum is amazing ;)

@wisnon

I am trying to sell my DAC. Thank you for answer. What is Big 7's DAC chip? Delta sigma or ladder? Anyone know?

Short answer: yes.

I have had the MSB Diamond DAC IV Plus with Galaxy Femto Clock upgrade ($44k in retail) and Lampi Big 7 is much more real sounding.
