Thank you Bob. I was not ready to pull the trigger but what the heck. Between the 40.1's and Strads, I'm DONE! Seriously.

Actually, I've wanted the 40.1's for a long time, I'm not giving up. I think they will be fun too.

Hi Joe,
You will regret leaving out the Tannoys! -- A pair of Canterburys would be right up your alley.

Joe

If you are looking for "mono's" that I think will beat the JOB's in the SS realm pm me. I think the speakers that you have coming have a similar sonic signature to what I like. While the JOB is a really good amp for the price point it can be beat to my ears. It is just missing something that I can't put my finger on. Again just my opinion.

AGREED! Haha.

Congrats Joe! The Sonus Faber Stradivari is the finest loudspeaker that I recall hearing. It stood out as the most musical, most dynamic with the best presence that I've ever heard.

Two summers ago my wife and I were in Scottsdale, AZ for a visit and we had a free Sunday. Ended up at LMCHE and spent three hours or so alone with a fine salesman (Mike?) that demo'd at least ten different setups in as many rooms. Those Strad's were setup in a room with Mc amps (most rooms were Mc but I'm not sure what exactly was powering the SF) and were positioned against the longer wall with the seating position in the shorter dimension. I'd guess the speakers were about 10-12' apart and the seating was maybe 8-10' back from their plane.

I don't know if I've ever heard a more realistic representation of what music is supposed to sound like than that experience.

Enjoy them kind sir, they are magical.
i totally agree with this post. the strads are what i think of when i go hear speakers and compare them in my mind to. ive heard more detailed and more dynamic and more full sound, but none were as musical and easy to listen to as the strads. they just made you want to put the best tube amps you could find on them and listen for 12 hours straight. day after day. id also say they are the best (for my tastes) speakers that ive heard in the last few years, and i got a pretty good list. and btw they are not as good with solid state as with tubes, not because im a tube guy, but to me it was night and day. oh maybe it is because im a tube guy.lmao!!!!!

I think it's great that Joe's got both SS and tube amps to drive the Strads, and some beasts too not wimpy little amps. That's what the Strads need. How long before we start talking about the MC1.2kw's?

I'd love a pair but the Strads had to happen. We'll see what the future holds.

Ok Joe the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth my friend owned Krell's KRS-100 mono blocks those amps are old but still very good amps changed the Krells for McIntosh MC-1000 mono blocks his speakers are Thiels CS-5i they are very hard to drive he tells me that he could not believe the difference he heard with the McIntoshs in the system it was like if there was something wrong with the Krell's the difference was that major you are already a McIntosh fan you don't need to change but if you do STAY with McIntosh and get these :):):)

Thanks Andre. I can't wait to get my speakers. Those McIntosh amps look awesome. I can't wait to try my MC601's too.

Joe
I see you plan on setting up the strads,yourself-here's a piece of advice, they will sound there best exactly one inch over from wherever you decide to place them *L*. Hope you get to enjoy them soon

Ha!

I will have experienced ears with me to confirm or most importantly deny my placement choice.

He's trying to be funny, saying that wherever I place them, it will not be right.

Funny but true. Are we ever satisfied with where our speakers end up? I'm good for a few months and then have to move them an inch here or an inch there. In another few months they usually end up back where I started. :)

no,I'm saying that the last thing you want to move just a tiny amount is a large (and heavy) speaker
