JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Randy

Are the Mc's adjustors trimming to total output or in input from each source? I'll order my pair closer to the time to put the tube amps away for the Summer. Interested in what you think about them.

The Mc is trimming the inputs, but since I am only using one input. So if I understand I put these in between the pre-amp output and the amps inputs... When they come in I will let ya know what I think.

Right they go on the amp end of the cable. I would set the trim back to zero before I installed them and then work from there. They should be enough on their own in taking the signal down 10 db from the preamp. Also I know you like the T-Zero, but this is a tempting deal that I would jump on if the KO's didn't already go that low or lower on their own.

Good deal for sure, and I know the 7 is supposed to be fantastic. Maybe too much for my loft :)....

I keep going back and forth between just sticking with the McIntosh and getting a new pre-amp. I think I am leaning towards the Job Pre2 as the perfect match to the amp. I just hate the idea of going through the whole selling the Mc process.

If someone was looking for one and wanted quick deal I would definitely give a great price on what is arguably the best headphone amp / compact system on the market.

Oh, I will definitely set the trim back to zero before installing the Roswell's when they arrive.

I would tend to trust the ones from Rothwell more as they specialize in Preamps and Phono Preamps. In addition their product has been around for over a decade and been tested by many of the respected British and European publications. I am only familiar with Harrison from the in-line speaker HP filters used in the Auto Stereo arena. The Rothwell owner/designer participates in several of the forums and will respond if you e-mail him.

Hey Jack, Yesterday I was having a problem figuring out how to order these from Rothwell... so I e-mailed them asking if I could order straight from them. I later then figured out how to order through the Rothwell website. So I placed my order. I received the auto reply on receiving the order.

Today I e-mailed letting them know I figured out how to order and included all reply e-mails.

I am a tad concerned that I never received an e-mail back or a shipping confirmation, etc. We will see I suppose....

Randy

There is an eight hour time difference between you and him, so middle of the night in UK when you e-mailed. He is on AudioKharma and some of the other forums all the time, he will get back to you it's a small cottage type company with a great reputation in the EU.

I figured so... I assumed with the reputation that it would be fine...

I think this will be a nice additional for a small amount.

I also noticed on his website that they sell a nice little pre-amp, but from what I can tell it is not sold in the US :(....

I would leave things alone for a month and see what you think then after the amp break-in and CES. Also be careful about the Job Pre as it was designed specifically for that amp. It would cause you the opposite problem with amps that have normal input sensitivity. My favorite with the Job is the W4S STP-SE, which has also worked great with amps up to 1.5v input sensitivity. Fully balanced in and out and usually available used for just over 1k. Was a mint one for sale on AudioCircle last week. I am going to order a set of the Rothwell Attenuators so I can run the Job with the ModWright pre when the weather warms back up and the tube amps go on vacation.

I think I am seriously leaning towards the W4S STP-SE. I just had a nice conversation with Tony.... surprise surprise.... they are built 20 mins from where I live.... I drive by their company going to work.... I was shocked when I was looking at their website and.... HOLY SHIT... Atascadero... I drive by them every day....

Well we will see what interest I get from the McIntosh. If I buy a Wyred 4 Sound I probably will buy a brand new one from the company (I can swing by and pick it up). They have told me that at time I can bring it to them and they can upgrade it for me... also the 5 year warranty is very cool!

Hi Randy,

I can really see how you are loving the Job on the LS-50. What a great match, I imagine. Looks like I may end up with the INTegrated to go along with them. Very exciting!

The Int Joe... really... that is cool...

So how are you ending up with the INT... did you get the LS50s yet? If so... you must see what I mean .... well if I sell the Mc I am leaning towards the W4S... looks perfect for my setup since someone will not send that old ratty thing over here :yahoo1:....

Yes, got the LS50 today. Really amazing for the size. I am really surprised.

:D Ha! The W4S will be perfect. Jack's correct. He knows a thing or two for sure.

The Aum Acoustics preamp works great with the 225 Joe.

Guess what Joe, apart from us and Guy in TX I have met another owner of this preamp. I figure less than 10 were ever made and the fellow came to my hose over the holidays. he lives in Panama now. Amazing, huh?

I dont think I will ever sell mine, due to the unusual and exclusive nature of this creation. LoL

Richard Becker of Aum Acoustics does amazing work. Yes, I do love mine too. Works perfectly and sounds even better, really has no sound of its own.

Nice.... and I have noticed them improving quite a bit with breakin.

The decision on the new pre-amp at this point is tied to selling the McIntosh. I have put it up at a very good deal, however I have decided that I am not going to give it away either. It is just way too good. So if it sells then someone gets a great deal, if not then it will continue being a very nice pre-amp. At some point I will then buy a W4S and keep the Mc as an amazing second system since it really is a complete system... DAC and all :)...

I would love to listen to the W4S in my system.... maybe I can convince them to loan me one over a weekend or something. I am literally right next door to their location.

Randy when I had mine, once you get to 100 hours they really start to perform. I had mine for 2 years powered by Quicksilver 45watt tube monos feed by the W4S STP-SE in a 11x10x10 open concept office. Great little speaker.
