JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Not crazy about that power strip. There are many other choices available. Save some money and we can explore your options.

Thanks Joe... ok, just for sack of discussion, guesstimate on a power strip.... and power cords, considering that the Sweet Cord at $300 is probably too much now... suggestions, Job, McIntosh, Teac and Rel all have replaceable power cables...

Thanks guys... In will have to look into these some more.... on way out door now. If I was going to replace a couple to start, which components would you most suggest. BTW- the teac came with a much thicker cable than the other equipment...

Hey Jack, that was pretty much the order I was thinking.

I did find this one super thick power cable that I again had on one of my computers. Again not needed there. I don't know any brand or much of anything about it. It does have a bunch of writing on it and says something VW-1 Shielding and other things, made in Japan, etc. It is a very thick cable. So I pulled it out and put it on the Job amp.

Even though I am sure that the cable and the Monster Power center are not fantastic, they are better than using cheap drug store power strip and included black power cables.

Already mentioned are some decent sounding and sane priced PC's are signalcable, cullen and shunyata venon. If you want something REALLY inexpensive, this cord is allegedly the iron lung jellyfish reviewed here just without the cryo treatment. I bought a few for some sources and found them to be surprisingly good. If you want to go a little more upscale, you might want to look for a used cord - they are readily available on sites like audiogon, audiocircle, us audiomart, etc - and will save you quite a bit of money.

Have you tried to plug your 225 directly into the wall? I tried mine both into my Running Springs conditioner and directly into the wall receptacle and prefer it directly into the wall.

looks like a can't include links since i don't have 10 posts.
for the cord, google 'MCM Part #28-11321
for the review, google 'It's Done! Power Cord Shoot-Out-- 22 Power Cords Reviewed!'

Well I just plugged the amp straight into the wall. The only issue is that outlet is on a switch :)... got to put a note or something to leave it on....

Might just order a couple Wireworld and use them on the amp and the McIntosh, then use the special heavy duty one on the DAC and the other heavy duty one that came with the teac on the Rel... at least get me a touch better for now.

Thanks for adding the links, Joe.

The Wireworld PC's are not good on Amps, believe me I have several. They work great on Preamps, DAC's, etc. You would be better off with the Red Copper cables from Cullen and he is just down the road from you. They are custom made when you order them. Also because of their flat design and stiffness the Wireworlds can be difficult to route.

I agree entirely... I have a WW PC that I bought for my ModWright preamp and tried it on my 225 just to scratch that itch. I did not care for it there - I much prefer the SweetCord. It does sound fantastic on my pre, however.

So what I will probably do is use the power cable I found here on the amp.... it seems to be working really good now.... I wish I could give more info other than the made in Japan and VW-1 shielding label... it is the heaviest duty cable I have ever seen.... Keep the amp straight to the wall, and the rest through the Monster Cable power (for now)... use the Wireworld on the McIntosh and the DAC, and the heavy Teac cable on the REL. this should get me going in right direction....

I find the WW PC cords can be a little aggressive/grainy on amps, especially.

I have not tried the newer 7 series from them though.

Ok, it looks like it is a Hirakawa cable.... I am thinking it should work for now with the amp...

Mine are series 7 and grainy is exactly how I'd characterize them on the 225 when compared to the SweetCord.

Well the Sweetcord will certainly be in the plans for down the road. I am going to use the Hirakawa with the 225 for now and the WW with the Pre and DAC. This will at least get me by for now.

I am seriously considering either getting a McIntosh C47 and selling the MXA70 and Teac, or getting a Job Pre2 and selling the MXA70 and having a couple grand to get everything else up to speed.

It's almost the same as Metis 7 - which means NOTHING because no-one knows anything about Metis 7 yet.
Hi Guys,
I live in France, near the border with Switzerland, and my dealer has the Metis 7 available for listening. My brother-in-law came from a Metis 5 plus an Audio Synthesis DAC, and sold everything after listening to the Metis 7 to buy it. He found it very detailed, opened, very good drive. Unfortunately, although this pre-series is available, it won't be available for sale before February 2016 at earliest. Is it just the INT in the Goldmund case ?

I did listen to it last week as well. I have not been impressed as we couldn't make it sound properly on 2 different pairs of speakers (Focus Audio FP88 and Dali Epicon 6). The bass was blur, uncontrolled. But this might just have been a bad day from power supply perspective or whatever. I will have to give it another try. But it matches with the feedback I read on the INT on stereo.net.au and on that same forum, mentioning a bump in the bass at a normal volume.

I suspect that Goldmund has delayed its release date to correct this aspect, and maybe also to work on the overheating aspect that the INT seems to suffer from time to time.
