JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Wisdom of JOB. ... 225 is two times 125 watts (2 x 125) = (225 > missing "1" between the two "2"s). ...In amplifier terminology.

Job 225: It means knowing the unity and true dignity of all men.
| Everyone is made in the image and likeness of good. (Gen 1:26) ... 125 +1 (the "1" previously missing is now added) = 1:26

:)

_________

Now the best part: 225 (2 + 2 + 5) = 9
- Gen 1:26 (1 + 2 + 6) = also 9

The number 9 is the highest number. ...The top of them all (from 0 to 9).

________

Alright, not sure on the origin of JOB, but quite sure on the number 225. ...Closer to wisdom than having or getting a job.
And what I said regarding the number 225 about "knowing the unity and ..." - I did find that exact description under that same exact number (225) and it is directly related to Genesis 1:26

But 225 is 125W x 2 (in power amplifier terminology). ...Not standard, but used by many still.

The #9 is simple coincidence, in both cases (Job 225, and Gen 1:26) when adding their numbers together the way I did.

I've put in 60 hours on mine at fairly low levels. Re-installed it in a spare system. Source was a Mac Mini running Pure Music and fed into an Audio-Gd DAC19. The DAC19 was hooked up to an old passive preamp I had lying around which uses an 100kOhm Alps Black Beauty pot. Speakers were a the KEF LS50.

I only managed to listen to a few tracks before I had to leave the house, but I was suitably impressed by this very compact amplifier. It has excellent bass control and articulation, even better than the class D amplifiers I normally use (based on ICEPower ASP500). It has good resolving power and grain-free sound. I particularly like the fact that it has more bloom and three dimensionality than a lot of solid state amplifiers I've heard or owned. Admittedly, I've not had top flight solid state amps in my setup (I'm more a tube person), but I've definitely not heard anything close to this quality in the Job's price range.

My DAC outputs 2.5V and the Alps pot had good adjustment range (between 10-12 o'clock for my normal listening volume). I've not used my passive pre for years, as I've always found it to be lacking in tonal density and dynamics despite the clarity - but it really matches the Job quite well. Definitely an option to consider for the guys looking for a pre to match.

Over the week, I will try the Job with my Sun Audio SV-500 tube preamp, before moving it to my main system. I'll also try directly driving the Job from an Antelope Audio Zodiac Gold DAC and B.M.C. Pure Audio DAC, both of which have excellent analog volume controls.

I am using a dac that has a variable output. The Job amp could use a slight amount of gain above what I am getting now. I don't want to add a full blown preamp, so the question is, is there any way to add the slightest bit of gain that doesn't qualify as a pre-amp which was originally used as a phono gain and we are many years beyond preamps as such.

Check out the Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE preamp. It is a full service passive/active preamp with excellent reviews. I just got mine but haven't any speakers (yet) to listen. I know you mentioned that you don't want a preamp. I didn't either until the W4S STP-SE was recommended. I researched, liked what I saw, and bought it. It appears to be a great fit for the Job. I'll know in about a week how well everything plays together. I also have a Oppo 105 with variable output gain. I'll try that as well.

Very newbie hear.

I tried reading through all 77 pages of this thread and let me tell you, it was a job.. (sorry, personality flaw).

Whew, OK, where to begin. I've had some great amps, Pass X350.5, Joule Electra's VZN100's, and currently own a BMC S1. I don't expect the job225 to hang with these amps. But when I read or see what you guys own, dang, you guys are serious too! And you love this little amp?

I had the N-cores over for a trial and thought they were thoroughly NOT musical. But those are in a different class pun intended.

Wisnon, (Norman), you've got the anti-mode 2.0. Are you using the anti-mode as the preamp? It replaced my Allnic L3000!

What's happening playingtheblues :hi:

I'm selling my NAD M51 for the BMC DAC, either the Pre1 1 or PureDAC.
But you folks have me thinking about this job225. I mean, I could get this little guy and a pair of those cheapo Pioneers and just have fun in another room right?

I mean, right?

Hmmm, how good is it?
There comes a point in quality amplification where it becomes just a choice of flavors at the top, and I believe this is up there. It is different than my Ref150 and Ayre VX-5. Of the three, the 150 is subjectively the top, BUT, this 225 is so close, and so musical, that I just don't care. I find I just sit and listen to the darn thing... for hours. Great amp. I am not selling the Ref150, but holy cow, this thing only cost $2k with cord.

Dave,

I love reading that and that's the point. For $2K with a better cord it competes with amps costing $15-20K retail. OMG! Amazing.

Joe, behave, you'll have everyone wanting one next & this thread will gross #125 pages.... just sayin:pirate::signhere::shocking:

I call it like I see it, err hear it. Products like the Job 225 will have other manufactures rethinking their gear and price points. Long live the king.

LoL

Believe it or not, I could be the ONLY one here who has not heard the amp but also the only one here who has seen them being assembled in the factory (close to my current home)...

I should be getting a demo with one driving the Goldmund Prologus speaker in the Spring.
Right now I am moving home, so no purchases contemplated in the near to medium term.

Hahahah. You had audio wolves waiting to pounce on your $1700 offer of amp with Sweetcord and you pulled a bait and switch. Too funny.

Now you see it, now you dont....

I dont blame you at all...

Anyone have an extra Sweetcord they're looking to sell? Any other cords you've tried and compared with the Sweetcord? I've been using a Triode Wire Labs 12+, but am interested in checking out the Sweetcord to see what that does... I could order from Job easily enough, but thought I'd check here first.
