DeVore O/96

Paul : this is a bad advice.
Do not take time to place them or to break them in.
Do like the IB2i : keep them for one month, then sell them. Life is short ! Time is money ! :D
Just tell me before everyone else ! :D

Ha!

Very funny. Finally someone more adventurous than me :)

wow paul sorry i missed this congratulations!!! i have said in the past that i didnt like the syleing of the 096's, but the look is growing on me. and im my near future pursuit to run 300b's these are for sure on my list to check out. although now im a little worried with the above posts, as i will be running 8w amps. guess ill have to head to living stereo and give a listen. talk with dougs buddy up there.
congrats and enjoy!!!

Sorry Blue, can't help with the Super 8's, Haven't heard them, although I'm told the DeVore speakers have strong house sound. Going back to the O/96, its a 10" 2 way speaker in a moderate size box. Within the limitations of that type of design, I think DeVore has chosen his compromises well. Best thing I can say about them is when properly driven within its range, the O/96 doesn't get in between you and the music.

I've heard the Super 8s, 9s, Xs, and O/96s with Shindo gear. Have to say the Orangutan series do not share that close of a sound with the Gibbons. Both series are fantastically musical for sure, which is why I own the 9s. But I'd describe the O series as the opposite of analytical, in that they draw you to the heart and soul of the music, plain and simple, while still sounding modern, very resolved and extended, and flat out fun - but they need some room to breathe and good placement to get that big sound to be as linear as possible (of course this depends on your room).

The Gibbon 8/9s are your more "outwardly conventional" speaker (a la Art Dudley), easier to place, work better for smaller spaces, are more linear and have better imaging, soundstaging, and bass is tighter and leaner, less voluminous than the Os... until you get to the Gibbon X, which I would not characterize as bass lean. The Gibbons are also honest to the music, but also give you the ability to enjoy the analytical side a bit more. I might say that the Gibbon series are more versatile with different kinds of music, but I haven't spent enough time with the O's to say this with certainty. I could easily live with the O/96s. Very easily. Or the Xs, for that matter.

One thing for sure: If you get a chance to check DeVores out, you'll likely get hooked.

I think Steve is Devore type of guy .:D

How is your car shopping ? did you purchase one ?
i think you may be right.!!!!lol
well i still have no car and i still have my snappers. lol. im keeping them ,they are still listed for sale but i will just run the ad out and not take any offers and keep em.unless i get full price.which i wont. i did sell my pre amp. and will get a temp phono/pre for now. but i have bigger better plans in mind for that in the near future.
snappers/veneres are here to stay and sophia electric/devores could be my future.
im very curious to your experience with te 096's and want to hear all about them when you get them!!!!

Great post, I agree.

Just a little note for all the DeVore O/96 owners/fans, My O/96s have a new best friend. An Audio Space, Reference 3.1. I haven't had enough time to give anything more than first impressions which are off the charts. As I mentioned eariler, I have heard O/96's with probably 6 or 7 different amps. This Audio Space is the best by a good margin, if you get a chance it deserves a listen.

Nice looking amp. You just gotta' love 300B's! This is the one right?

Yep that's it. I'm not trying to be coy about giving details, but I've only had it a few days. Been involved with this hobby for 30 years, so not prone to rave about gear. I need more time with it, but so far, I'm impressed.

Glad you're enjoying it. Let us know how things are sounding once you get some hours on it.

Oh ! So you bought the 8's but did not order yet the O96. I did not know that.
I am not surprised that you felt in love with the 96 compared to the big PMC's.
For sure, the mids of the PMCs are unique but their monitor sound us not imho the most rewarding one in domestic HiFi. For pro users ? Sure. For us ? Not so sure. I am just talking about the big PMCs. Not the Fact series, or the Twenty or the smaller ones like OB1i and so on.
When I turn on the system, I want the sound to "massage" my mind. Devore speakers are all about that.

Jerome. It has been ordered. :) Expecting some time this month.

How about your Silverback ?
