I have some O96's also, but i'm still working on the best amps for them. Right now I'm using my Accuphase with them but I doubt if that is really maximizing them. I notice you are using the red wine amps. How are they with the O96s and/or what else did you try? I keep coming back to the Manley 300b amps. but ????????

An O/96 owner here, any questions/advice needed. Feel free to ask.

Jock,

You should really try a Job 225 on the O/96's. I know I sound like a broken record but ask Mike. I think the Job/Devore combo will be spectacular. I love the Job on my SF Evos. They complement each other very well.

Thank you. I do know this is stupid question. But I'm gonna ask:D

What is the sonic difference with the Super 8 ? One is floor standing speakers and one is more like box type.

I have a guy who selling used Super 8 I like to purchase them as well. Just wondering what is the sonic difference are.

I've heard the O/96 with a number of different amps. I purchased the speakers from a friend who used them with Mac 275. I've also heard them with a couple 300b amps, (Cary and VAC) and a Pass First Watt. Of that group, the VAC was the best. VAC 30/30 is a killer amp somebody tell Kevin to put it back in the lineup.

My plan when purchasing the O/96 was to pair them with an Atma-Sphere Novacron, but my wife vetoed. I had the Redwine stuff sitting around. It was supposed to be temporary while negotiate with my wife about "HER" living room. but it surprised me and sounded pretty decent together. Since the NYC place is a second home, so I've let it slide.......

Couple of observations, the O/96 probably isn't as efficient as advertised. Very low wattage amps audibly run out of steam at moderate listening levels. Bass control is also all over the map. Some of those amps got bright as they ran out of steam. Moral of the story, don't commit to anything until you hear it together in your room, with your music.

Sorry Blue, can't help with the Super 8's, Haven't heard them, although I'm told the DeVore speakers have strong house sound. Going back to the O/96, its a 10" 2 way speaker in a moderate size box. Within the limitations of that type of design, I think DeVore has chosen his compromises well. Best thing I can say about them is when properly driven within its range, the O/96 doesn't get in between you and the music.

Thanks for the info.

I agree that they seem to need more power than the 96db would let you believe. People I have talked to have said that they wouldn't go less than 20 watts. I was thinking of getting the First Watt SIT amp but ran scared with it's 10w rating. I need to hear the Line Magnetic amps. I know Devore has used them to demo them in the past.

Thank you :) Quick question How did you find the sound with MC275 ? I have MC275's did you hear them in mono ?

The Line Magnetic stuff in general has gotten rave reviews. Problem is how do you hear it? Few dealers, the best of the Line Magnetic integrated is like back ordered for 6 months or something crazy like that. Leban has also gotten good press, although I've been told Line Mag is better. ... Really comes down to at what price are you willing to take the risk??? lol. Got any ideas?

Yes, the dealer network is small. For those in the NY area In Living Stereo is the only place I know of that has both the LM and Devore gear (just make sure to set up an appointment first...) Bob at Rhapsody carries LM amps now also.

I have the LM218ia SET integrated and although my amp experience is small, it's the most musical sounding amp I've had the pleasure to listen to. Am I biased? Absolutely. I talked to my guy about making the switch to a Leben CS600 and he said that the two amps are so close in sound that it would be a lateral move at best. He actually told me that a bigger gain would be made going from my Super 8's to the O93/96 series. I don't know what the back log of orders is like but when I was kicking around the idea of the Leben my dealer said he would give me full trade-in value on my LM due to the fact that there are none on the used market.

My friend had a single MC275, and I thought it was a good pairing. Everything is a compromise. You want reach out and touch realism of some of the low wattage alternatives like the VAC. Or do you want the bass control and dynamics of the higher powered Mac. Different listeners? Different Rooms? Different Music? DIFFERENT ANSWERS !!!!!

Blue, do take your time with them. As I believe you've already discovered, the O/96 is very sensitive to placement. I think you have something to work with, HAVE FUN!

Paul : this is a bad advice.
Do not take time to place them or to break them in.
Do like the IB2i : keep them for one month, then sell them. Life is short ! Time is money ! :D
Just tell me before everyone else ! :D
