Any other fellow Audio Research (ARC) Owners here?

Nelson:

Transparent makes a nice IC, I also like Mike Morrow's stuff and am using AQ speaker cable, although I also like Kimber.

Nothing fancy, but does get the job done and no colorization.

Mike,

Would be nice if we could get the folks in Minnesota to join and participate in this forum. With so many ARC owners...

What do you think?

They've been invited! Would love to have them here.

Mike:

I have spoken with Kalvin a few times (about tubes) and get the sense that they're good people. Hopefully they will hang their hat on the AS, certainly a lot of ARC owners here!

Kalvin is very knowledgeable. Would love to have some ARC folks here. We have lots of fans! Including me!

Maybe my bias, but I would like to see ARC back in alliance with Magnepan. Nothing against Sonus Faber, I personally think Maggie's sound better on ARC's than Sonus Faber's IMHO.

However, I wouldn't kick a pair of Aida's to the curb!

That would be one very sore foot!I'm hearing you on the Magnepans Jim, I get to hear them a lot, 20.7/3.7 & am really starting to love their sound.

Big Jim,

Recently sold a VS-110 which I've owned for over 7 years. Extremely nice amp for the money, not overly analitical and a real toe tapper. On the warmish side of the spectrum but never introduced fatigue. Sold it as I wanted a transistor amp (I had 54 tubes back then which was a little too much to manager in the event of a failure), wanted something a little more resolving, the heat it created and finally the amp warms up after a minimum of an hour and very often my listening session last two hours.

BTW did you try Kt-120's instead of the 6550's? it brings it to a whole different level.

Anyways have very fond memory of that amp and I'm sure someone else is enjoying it now.

I called ARC and s/w Kalvin at great length about tubes and he said the VS-110 could handle the KT120's, but advised against it due to the bias point where it would be sluggish and run more class B. Then there would be excess idle voltages do deal with. I haven't found the same warm up time issues, it takes about 20 minutes for my system to be at its happy place. BTW, there is a thread about KT120's in the Tube Forum. Jim

Long time ARC guy here as well. My modded (Mark Huntley) SP9 MkII still provides great service in my sons system out in Pine Jct, Co. Currently my LS-27 keeps a smile on my face…..

My ARC gear are all older models, but I love their presentation all the same.

Would love to demo some newer ARC models within the rest of my setups someday.
