What Vinyl Do You Have On The Table?

Wu Mann plays with Martin Smith on the Water Lily Music For The Motherless Child. Heard her last year playing at Carnegie with The Kronos Quartet and Kavi really captured the sound of her instrument on this recording. Wish it was on vinyl but they'd be hard pressed to sell 100 copies. Plus Kavi sold his Tim de designed machine and not sure the original master tape can be played back on any other machine.

Myles, I'll be attending a the Silk Road Ensemble's concert at Avery Fisher Hall in Feb. I hope Wu Man is part of the ensemble (she typically is on their recordings). I simply just fell in love with the sound of the Pipa last year.

I like the ATRs have you compared it to the standard press?

Yes they are both good but different. I think the ATR presising has a bit more detail while the original might have a little more instrumental overtones. But there's definitely information missing on the original that's present on the ATR (such as the bird's chirping and the very subtle horn honking during the jeep go round at the end of side two).

I also think the ATR pressing is a little cleaner sounding. While the original sounds like at first blush like it has more ambience, when all is said and done it's just murkiness. Also the recording's EXPLOSIVE dynamics and sense of space are stunning especially with the Azule Platinum. And we are talking some of the most explosive dynamics I've heard on LP!

But I could live with either.

I just picked up this album and if you like tuning good voices check out Delta Times by Hans Theessink and Terry Evens, feat. Ry Cooder great music great recording. 180 gram Blue Groove BG2210. 2012. If you got the system this is the record more soul than a Baptist Church on Martin Luther King day. I would love to hear these guys in a small venue . IMO a great record
