What are you watching?

Bob, forgive me for I have sinned.

I so enjoyed "The Last Emperor" that when I friends over last night I saw it again. It is a beautiful, thoughtful movie and was fun to see again with people seeing it for the first time. I joked that if I see the same movie twice in a month they might throw me off the Audioshark site!!!!!! I need to see new movies. By the way, they came over to see Gravity but in talking about visuals I mentioned how much I like The Last Emperor.

Barry, you're all forgiven. :)

'The Last Emperor' is a beautiful movie; rated highly in my C Blu-ray collection.
- Directed by one of my favorite cinema (vision) maestros.

And 'Gravity 3D' is a tour-de-force! ...Intelligently pictured and audio/sound recorded.
...My top 3D flick @ this time; surpassing 'Avatar' and 'Oz' and 'Hugo', ...to stay within the style (non-animated).

Do you know that guy? ...It's Bob & with all his gang! :cool:

Hi Bob:

I like small movies. I like BIG movies too, but I do enjoy movies without space ships, aliens, or boats sinking. So i saw, last night, "About a Boy.' Hugh Grant surprises me and added great depth to his character. Although it had a familiar plot they handled it very well and I totally enjoyed the picture. perhaps the very ending was a bit to pat, but i enjoyed it very much.

No I did not see “Here” either. Years ago this would have meant I’d might never see it, but it won best screenplay and I heard it’s a great movie. Will see it soon.

It's a love story between a writer (love letters) and his iPhone (her; inside his computer).

She has a very comforting and intimate voice; he talks to her everyday and night, and she's in love with him too.
...She's in love with another 641,000+ people from the cyber space.

It's a very nice little love story, a little film, from what I've been told by expert sources (real-life friends who saw her).
... Spike Jonze, director. I can't wait, to see her.

You've got to see it to believe it! ...These guys are in their 70s, they play the same tunes for the last 50 years, making tons of money while doing the same thing over and over (deep down in their soul they must be bored at times), and their audiences keep getting younger and younger (that must help them to still vibrate). Hey, this is the Rolling Stones, and it's only Rock&Roll, but I like it! :)

Very highly recommended viewing. ...In hi-def picture and hi-res surround sound.

My brother is coming in for a few day visit at the end of March. On your (Bob'a) suggestion I picked up Pacific Rim, in 3D and we are looking forward to it. I have been seeing movies with my brother, of course, all my life. We like good movies, silly movies, fun movies, moving movies and Monster movies. We discussed how much the world has changed in 20 years. From 1975-1995 we could see movies at home, enjoy them, but we so much like the theatre experience more. Now, with great surround sound, great images, and recliners we are so much happier seeing movies at home. Some Imax movies are exceptions and we do see movies in theatres with friends and have a good time. But we don't have to miss movies or see them cut up. For example, I will round of The Thief. My brother wants to see at home, French Connection II, something we'd never go to a theatre for. And its a movie we expect to fast forward a bit through. So Bob please keep suggesting movies!!!!! I may pass of Dracula, but I just got a big Universal set of blu ray horror movies.35661_large.jpg

Hi Barry,

1. Forget about that 'Dracula' 3D flick above! ...I did it only for the fun of it (it was dirt cheap), and it's hard to not laugh. :D

2. 'Pacific Rim' - 3D is better than in 2D; it gives you a grander dimensional perspective on the scale of them giant robots. ...The 3D picture is well done (on my HDTV plasma it sure was).
{And you did good to pick it up because a bunch of Warner Bros Blu-ray 3D titles are on sale for only $20 a pop.
And PR - 3D is a 4-disc set, fully loaded; with the 2D version included, of course.}

3. 'Thief' (Criterion) is awesome! [Criterion Blu-rays, when on sale; some titles cost only $20]

4. 'French Connection II' is nothing compared to the original; my own personal opinion.
It's worth a look, depending on your mood @ the time.

5. Universal 'Classic Monsters' flicks are cool. ...Good BD set (eight flicks) you picked up Barry. :)

<<>> Last night (revisited, in 3D) ::

If I decided to re-watch it again it's because there is a reason; I like it! :) ...In black and white too. :cool:
The 3D effect is superbly done, and all the animation is top-notch; my kind of art. ...Tim Burton; he's a genius!
{You can click on the picture cover above for one apercu.}

* Disney Blu-ray movies are generally some of the very most expensive ones.
...With tax (here in Canada), some of them I paid $50+ a pop! ...Sales are non-existent, or extremely rarely.
Disney studios is into Movie Rewards (points), and family (with kids) oriented. Some people that's how they get their discount (not me, I don't collect reward points; life's just too short to collect coupons.)

Bob,

I just posted a big thread that really just started out being about more movies not on Blu Ray. The Black Stallion comes out today, but there is no sign of Avalon or Nobody's fool.

I just saw them both.

Avalon is a great movie who has a sub text of what the electronic era was doing to families in the 1950s. Who knew that this movie would predict so much of what today's attitudes would be?

Nobody's Fool is a small movies with no great sound effects, just great sound actors: Paul Newman. Bruce Willis and Seymour Hoffman. That these movies are not on blu ray concerns me. I'd hate to see them lost in time.
