What are you driving your Magico's with?

Hello,

I am powering my Magico S3's with Mola Mola Kaluga Mono's and find the pairing to be excellent. The Mola's can drive the Magico's with ease, especially given the S3's 4ohm efficiency rating and the power on-tap provided by the amps into that load (700w). Some may say its overkill but I've always been a fan of overkill :snicker:

IMO, The clean sounding Class D Mola Mola's when combined with the honesty of the Magico S3 is a match made in heaven. In my setup I have chosen to add a little bit of Salt/Pepper flavouring via cables instead of via the gear itself. I found the Cardas Clear speaker cables to be an excellent pairing with this setup during a recent demo in my home thanks to the CableCo lending library. I ended up writing the check for the Clears and am now awaiting their arrival. The Clears seem to add just the right amount of seasoning to take off the edge.

I'm powering my S1MKii with ARC GS150 / ARC Ref 5SE. Sounds wonderful in my living room!

I had the Pass XA-100.5's before the S3's. Heard the S3's at the 2014 Axpona show with the same combo, then again at the dealer. Got them home and heard no reason to change.

Two very different options for driving Q7mkIIs (94dB): Soulution 701 monos and Kondo Kagura monos (50w). Both wonderful in their own way.

Terrific amps. I had a pair with Revel Salon 2's and they drove the Salon 2's effortlessly to as high a volume as the ears could take. Some of the best sound I ever had in my listening room.

Best,
Ken

I use Pass XA160.5 for my Magico Mini IIs. I tried the 100.5s but they did not have quite enough control. The 160.5 improved bass extension and articulation and provided a more effortless sound. I think the S3 is an easier load than the Mini II.

Pass and Magico are a great combination, IMO.

Peter, the Mini IIs are gorgeous. Congrats!

Thank you very much, cmarin. Indeed they are. I also love the way they sound. For the right room and music preferences, they are a really good value on the used market right now, if you can find a pair.

You're very welcome Peter. The layered wood and aluminum faceplate combination is gorgeous and brought back pleasant memories of the Magico M5 which I previously owned.

I have only heard the M5 once, but they sounded fantastic and reminded me very much of the Mini II, just a bigger sound with more bass extension. They were extremely coherent and disappeared in the room, which was surprising given their size and shape. They are a fantastic buy on the used market, if you can find them.

Hi Peter,

You're right. If you can find a pair of M5s, they'd likely be a great value.

Used to drive the M5s with Audio Research 610T monos. The 610s had a lot of tubes. And while the M5s may not be as transparent as the more recent Magico models, the M5/610 combo was extremely musical and engaging.

I recently gave my S1s a workout with these guys.

I compared them to a 200, and it was an improvement, but not as big as advertised. Though it could be a limitation of my speakers, room, or hearing.
