Tube amps for Alexia's

You guys are crazy. These are keepers.

Just talked to Chuck at Mc and he said two 275's would have no issues with 1 ohm dips.
I think everyone was just hoping you'd sell the Alexias cheap and then go out and buy XLFs!!! ;)

Not a chance. For my room, they are perfect. XLF's wouldn't fit anyway (height or weight).

Chuck Hinton just told me a pair of 275's would have no problems with 1.8ohm dip.

Mike,
I think that a tube amp could well be able to handle difficult loads. Maybe you should just try a couple to find out.

In case you are still open for suggestions here are a few alternatives:

This one is from my own country: Prima Luna. Sounds really sweet:

What about this beauty from Italy: Pathos. Very well tested.

A dip to 1.8 ohms

According to Martin Colloms, its about 1.8ohms at 80hz and 2.5 at 60hz...but the phase angle is steep enough that he wrote, it will look more like a typical 1ohm load to the amp...i'm no techie but that's what he wrote. meanwhile, from 20hz-300hz he went on to write the overall load is generally about 3ohms. So it seems potentially even more difficult than the Sasha to drive. In any event, it sounds like the McIntosh's will be up for it which is great.

Mike
You absolutely do not need a pair of tube amps. When you get the D'ag's you will have all the amp you'll ever need.

Beautiful Mike! If I had that setup, I would probably just sit there in awe of its beauty, and forget to turn on the music!

Hi Mike,
You really have a dream set now! I cannot imagine you ever want to change this. So in your case you might be happy for at least two months

I am glad you have received a better camera. But although the picture quality is a lot better I think you can receive even better photos by changing something. I would suggest either closing the window or using a flash light or better light source in general to do the photo in your room. The following photos I have found on the internet. It is not exactly the same setting as in your case but the basic idea is the same. The first is without flash light and the second with.

I'll take a better picture tonight when I get home.

Outstanding set up Mike!

Well, how is it sounding in your room? (Realizing that there is still a bit of break-in ahead)

Now it's time to enjoy...:panic:

It sounds fabulous Mike. After everything we had going on last night, I only had an hour or so of low volume listening late last night. I hope to get things rocking today or tomorrow. But first impressions are excellent. I'm shocked at how well the D'Agostino amps separate all the instruments and is seemingly perfectly balanced from top to bottom.

I know exactly what you mean, Mike. I heard the D'Agostinos at Joe's. The first note played and I looked at Joe in awe. The separation of the instruments and the walk in soundstage were as good as I've ever heard. Balanced without a trace of harshness.

+1

Yup! A combo that I may have to replace. :panic:
