"To Lampi or not to Lampi?....That is the question." by William Shake-it-up

I'm definitely loving my Big 7 Lampizator. It arrived last week, and I have been letting it burn in since then. Playback out of the box was very good.....and has only gotten better. Dead quiet....no hums.....VERY ORGANIC. I will post more as it breaks in. Lukasz the owner, has been awesome in every aspect of my dealings with him. There is no reason for concern about any issues with Lampizator, as this is a company who cares about its customers. They are small, and busting butt to keep up with orders. But they will take care of you. And Fred, our US distributor is top notch !!

Jerry,

Wow! I am soooooo happy you are loving the Lampi. Please keep the reports coming.

Another CALLOUT for Fred. He is very customer centric and a good ambassador for Lukasz and the brand.

What tubes are you burning in now ??? Output and Recti ??

I got my Big 7 with the Emission Labs 45's, and Emission Labs 5U4G. I do have some new Psvane 101D's to swap out later. I want to let the dac settle in first , before doing a bunch of tube swapping.

Lampi DSD arrived this week. Am burning it in before I do any critical listening or report-outs. Some photos for your viewing pleasure...

Congrats. It is different than my DSD only ... my didn't have the opening at the bottom.

Does it use the PCBs ?

It is just built this last month so assume his new production techniques are used. I also assume the tubes in the recessed section are input tubes and the rectifier is inside? I love the fact I invited Lukasz to make the tube compliment whatever he wanted to and that my goal was to compete with my vinyl rigs. He chose something different I believe than usual. That bespoke quality from a "master craftsman" is pretty darn cool and I believe his "master craftsman" narrative around each piece like this creates a strong marketing value for the brand. I work for Nike and our customization and Nike I.D. has been a great success. Younger generations - whether clothing or audio gear- want something tailored unique and personal.

Darrin - congratulations! I like how you were able to tailor it to your liking. Looking forward to your impressions. Have you been able to downloaded since nice DSD albums?

Thanks, Mike. Yes I have about 20 dsd downloads from blue coast and acoustic sounds and other dsd sites. I need to get my large collection of sacds ripped.

Congrats, Darrin!

Do you know how you will be ripping your SACDs? DYI or paid service?

thx

Still researching. I have an original PS3 but have updated the firmware so not sure if I can roll it back. Would prefer to have someone who knows what they are doing rip them for me.

I still have my original ps3 as well. If you find out a way to roll it back to the correct version, please let me know!

You two can take all the time you need to get us some feedback........ just as long as you hurry the hell up. :D

I have a solid two weeks of break-in / listening to my new Big 7 Lampizator dac now. It continues to improve everyday. At this point I can confidently say it's DSD playback is the best I've heard. The sound quality produced by the Lampi mimics the natural tone, sustain, timing, and flow of music I've heard in a live event. The soundstaging is excellent, displaying a wide and deep presentation. The bass is taunt and full. The midrange is a perfect blend of warmth and bite....not overblown. I have had other dacs flesh out a bit more detail and dymanics, but none were as natural sounding as the Lampi in my system. My best redbook playback is date is via my Berkeley Reference dac unit. The Lampi redbook is getting closer to the Berkeley, as it continues to break-in.
My Lumin S-1 fall a bit short when compared to Lampi's DSD, or Berkeley's redbook. But as I've said before, the Lumin is a great combo dac/streamer, that has an awesome user interface. The Lumin offers streaming and superb multi-format performance at very reasonable costs.
I must qualify my impressions by stating that my newly constructed listening room is currently a bit over-damped. So I am unable to judge the 5k to 20k frequency range of these dacs as well as I would like. So please take this issue into consideration, when considering my review. I will report more, if additional changes take place.
