"To Lampi or not to Lampi?....That is the question." by William Shake-it-up

Bottom line….When I think about buying a DAC or any other piece of gear, the last thing I want to hear are denials, explanations and excuses.

For the price point, I have this issue about justification contention too.

I just got my Modwright 5400es back from Modwright. It (straight into my air tight preamp) now sounds (slightly) better than my chord Hugo (coax out from Sony into Chord via kimber d60). Still not as engaging as my vinyl but very very good. The Lampi DSD only is going to have some stiff competition in my system. I will report what I hear good and bad. Will ask Jennifer Crock and her husband (Jena Labs and both recording engineers) over to listen to. They have golden ears. And I have zero allegiance or bias to Lampi - and told them I was buying this to compare / compete and would be reporting on it to my audio friends.

Very much looking forward to this report!! Can you give us an ETA on the Lampi?

I just edited the post I put in yesterday about waiting to hear on ETA of my DSD for two reasons:

1. I went back and checked my emails - to make sure I am speaking from facts. My DSD only order was paid/placed March 5th US/6th Poland. I was told the normal turn-around was 3 weeks but was warned the queue was pretty full. The North American distributor was responsive to all my emails.

From reading others posts online i sensed this week would be latest date received. But in fairness an additional week or two is not out of bounds given previous communications.

I also found an email where Mr Lukasz had to attend a funeral and some of his employees were out due to sick leave. So another (unfortunate) reason for potential delay.

2. I received an email this morning that my dsd Dac is being completed and readied for shipment.

Thanks Darrin.

Wow, this is the first thread anywhere that I've come across mentioning any negative aspects about Lampizator dacs and their brand. I just placed and order with Fred at Lampizator North America for an Amber dac and feel a little uneasy about it now.

I still have high hopes for the Amber and look forward to hearing what the Lampizator sound is all about but after reading the last 9 pages I'm not quite as excited as I was before. Hopefully everything will workout and I can have a great experience.

No worries - in terms of reliability and 'issues' Lampi is no different than ANY tube DAC available on the market. And in terms of sound quality - it is much better.

Congrats on your new DAC.

Congrats Tomy! I'm sure any issues were long ago and long behind them. I look forward to your impressions. Congrats.

Thanks guys!

I opted for the Jupiter Copper Foil caps and Level 4 pcb board, so I'm looking to hear some great things from this and will definitely chime in when things settle.

Congrats Tomy! I hope it exceeds all of your expectations. Looking forward to hearing your impressions. The Lampi approach to DSD conversion really intrigues me.

Congrats. I get my DSD only Dac this week. Most everything I have read on performance and customer service has been exceptional. North America distributor has been great and last week I was getting personal updates and questions from Poland directly on the DAC shipment etc. I will report my listening findings shortly. What attracted me to the brand and the purchase sight unseen and unheard was how many seasoned listeners have said this is digital sounding like analogue.

Lotsa Lampi love going on now! Look forward to hearing people's feedback when they get the units! Good stuff!

If it's a version that does DSD, that's a true statement. I reviewed the Lampi 4 and was quite smitten with it. I mentioned in my review that if you didn't know it had tubes, you probably wouldn't guess that it does. Mine was super quiet with an extremely low noise floor and the music decayed into blackness naturally like analog does where some digital fades too quickly into an artificial blackness. The Lampi 4 just decays into the bottom of your system's noise floor and does not set the noise floor for your system.

One other DAC that sounds very analog sounding is the Allnic DAC DHT5000(?). I mentioned this to Adam and he surmises it's probably because they are both DHT based Dacs.

Anyway, back to Lampi...
