TAD CR-1's with the JOB 225 - I am impressed and in disbelief ....

I actually called the Rhapsody (met them at the NY Audio Show) and the Telos 280 retails for ~$16K. Bob (the owner) did say it can sound good on speakers that weren't too difficult a load.:skeptical:

Joe, if you ever make it over there, he also carries Raidho's.

Thanks Allen

It does make me wonder how the more advanced Goldmund amps sound. I may have to investigate further.

Nick,

Really look forward to your impressions! I tried to demo the RS-100 the other week but they were out for review.:(. Good luck!

Hi Nick,

I look forward to your thoughts. I bet the Telos 280 would sound great too. So many choices.

That's quite the set up he has. Where's the vinyl?!!! :panic:

His loss. Read the first paragraph of his latest review (Linn Akurate). His friends are flipping over their LP, while he's fussing about with digital.

I have met Chris twice thru friends at audio shows last year. Lovely guy but sadly we spoke mainly about dacs with and without preamps. Briefly touch on his system. Spectral does best with spectral preamp, MIt and many other items that he gets at wonderful insiders pricing. He is very much a computer whiz and and would b surprised if he did have vinyl. I love my XP-20, would consider a tube preamp but never would spectral b on my short list for these particular speakers. They need warmth not just speed in my opinion.

The need for warmth, or maybe just not "cool", lends significance to Joe's positive reaction to the JOB 225. This affordable amp seems to be mostly neutral as well as transparent and harmonically rich, quite a rare combo at the price. The CR-1s are very revealing and would lay bare any negative traits the JOB presents, that Joe likes the amp is amazing given the other alternatives in his arsenal.

I honestly can not believe the value and sound quality of the Job amp. Sure the Dartzeel is better (or I should say is ultimately my preference) but if I did not have the Dart, I could live with the Job.

Totally bummed. Hooked up Vitus RS-100
Confirmed connection
Plugged in essentially very new demo unit.
NO Sound from right speaker. So much for my weeklong demo. Lovely dealer very embarrassed. It may b part of their modular design units dislodged during shipping. Bye bye for now. Will update soon

"s" happens.
who knows what happens with shipping trauma. Unit now has lifetime warranty not just 5 years. I am hoping they will let me take off cover and check for a simple dangling connection to right speaker output. It fits nicely on my desk and did not run very warm and sonically reviews r good. I hope I can b patient if this unit does not get fixed soon.

I bought a JOB 225 to power a pair of Genesis Advanced Technologies monitors. (Wish I had TAD CR-1s like Joe's, but those will have to wait a few years.)

Regrettably, my JOB 225 is defective. It emits constant 60 Hz buzz (with scary high-frequency harmonics) through the loudspeakers whenever the unit is connected to any preamplifier. If you unplug either IC, the problem disappears. Though the amp seems to have some impressive qualities (even with the hum), I'm not going to risk damaging my tweeters with it. It's a $1500 Swiss-made paperweight until JOB/Goldmund resolves the problem.

So far JOB, which seems to be Goldmund's value brand, has been in occasional contact but has not taken action to fix the problem. Given my interactions with them (in which they have implied that something must be wrong with my other equipment and requested detailed information about it, which they then appear not to read), I recommend that you avoid doing business with these guys. I filed a claim with Amazon today.

Wow! Scary stuff. You should have 30 days to return it for a full refund. That's usually how Amazon works.

Jon,

Welcome to AS! Thank you for joining. I'm sorry they have not been more timely in resolving your problem. That's a great way to introduce yourself to the American market. I guess I got lucky with my unit. Please let us know if they step up to the plate and do the right thing.

Good luck!

JOB Electronics specifies a return period of 10 days from the date of shipping and a 20% restocking fee! I could have returned the amp within the 10-day return period had they responded to my problem promptly, but all I heard from them was that my other equipment must be causing a ground loop. I sent them a ludicrously detailed email explaining all the steps I'd taken to rule out conventional ground loop hum. JOB responded to that email, but it appears that no one there bothered to read it.

If neither JOB nor Amazon resolves this, I'll go to the CC company. Until JOB takes meaningful action to correct the problem, I strongly recommend avoiding this amp.

In my previous post, I didn't mention the non-functional quality control issues with this amp. First, mine has an audible rattle, but I know that other users of the amp have reported the same without any audible problems. Second, my amp is labeled "300W, 0V," which, of course, can't be correct. Third, and most surprisingly, my unit has stripped hex screws on the top and bottom of the unit. Because all Goldmund/JOB repairs must, of course, be completed at the factory, perhaps the screws were stripped intentionally to prevent "unauthorized" repair.

That's absurd! 10 days and no response? I wish you luck and hope you get all your money back.
