For anyone thinking about buying this amp, whip out your credit card - it's time. I give it my seal of approval. I finally hooked it up to my TADs and I am literally in disbelief. How does it sound? In a word - Awesome! I need to put my ears within a few inches of the tweeter/midrange to hear any noise with nothing playing so I'd say it's pretty quiet. Bass is NOT a problem. There is almost too much bass from this thing. The sound stage is very wide and comes from the speaker into the room with some depth to the front wall. There is a clarity (absolutely zero harshness) that is undeniable with air around voices and instruments. It's the kind of clarity that invites you to turn up the volume and really enjoy what you are hearing but after a little while you realize, holy cow that was loud. I can relate that experience to my Cornwall III's. You are rocking out and when the music stops you realize that was way too loud, what was I thinking. So be careful. It has only been playing for a few hours from cold. I heard some congestion typical of amps warming up but after about thirty minutes to an hour or so it opened up nicely. I had been running it virtually non-stop since I bought it and I am sure it has several hundred hours on it by now. It's a Class A/B amp and runs pretty warm but it is not unbearable. After cranking the tunes a while, the top of the unit, as measured by my Fluke infrared thermometer, reaches just under 100 degrees F and the heat-sinks on the back measure just under 140 degrees F. It specs out at 125 wpc into 8 ohms but nothing is listed for 4 ohms. At no point, for me, do I feel it's underpowered. Quite the contrary. I have not done any immediate testing compared to Dartzeel or Dagostino, yet. If I was smart, I'd sell the amps (pocket a ton of money) and maybe order one more. If I felt the need, I'd bi-amp them but that's crazy talk (no not really). I personally prefer preamps in the chain but for those who don't, the JOB 225 can be the heart of a superb system. I am sure I'll have more to say so stay tuned.
The JOB 225 is just an amazing piece. There is some caution about it passing DC (from poorly designed tube preamps) in the owners manual but obviously I am not having any issues. All is great in my world. :exciting:
