S5s in for audition

Jock:

You're reading my mind. I'll see how far I can take the S5s with a few more tweaks but a pair of D1s (or even C1.1s) may be next in line.

I had the pleasure of hosting a visit by Mr. "Synergistic Research" (Ted Denny III) yesterday who put up a slew of tiny little horns (HFTs) in my room. We even opened up my Aurender unit and he placed 10 of them inside! He really wanted into my DAC2X but it wasn't as easy to crack open. I know we all smoke a little bit of "audio crack" but holy cow are the S5s singing! I must be smoking something because there's no reason these things should work. But, a haze, or confusion, that I didn't even realize was there, disappeared right before me. And, when Ted took them all down, the chaos returned. WTF! I thought I had things dialed in!

I don't want to turn this into a SR post (which I'll do later) so I just wanted to add that the Magicos hold their composure at high high SPLs better than anything I've ever had in my room. A tight punchy kick drum, strong full textured bass lines, and rock and roll are driving my wife crazy  If you only listen to "audio show" music you'll never know just how good the Magicos are.

Ted and I also discussed the Raidho tweeters/mids and he agreed that the clean leading edge is what makes them so addicting and so hard for me to let go of. I'm getting closer though.

Interesting update, thanks!

Speaking of Magico S5 loudspeakers; yesterday I read one person's experience with them and as compared to a pair of Wilson speakers (forgot the model).
...That was a very interesting read. ...Perhaps some of you also read it? ...From another audio site.
If not let me know, and I'll direct you to it. ...Mike (our adm here) was even mentioned in it.

Allen:

Yes I've had two extended Alexia auditions; very impressive but I prefer the S5s.
Perhaps if I had the opportunity to try them at home my opinion would differ.
To my ears, they lacked weight and bass despite their size.

Michael, I've read something very similar to what you're just saying above, from another person,
and in the comfort of his own room @ home.
Perhaps you've also read it?

And congrats on your new musical acquisition.

Michael, I had a chance to hear the S5's again yesterday at David's place. They now have over 1,000 hours on them and are sounding very, very good !!

Yesterday we hooked up a Levinson system to them and I was floored by the improvement from last month.

Mike - after Peter's rave review of these little devices, I reached out to Syngergistic Research. I hope to get some in for review.

Where's Mark? He loves voodoo!

Bob:

Thanks. Just read it and I agree.

Mike:

Give Ted or someone from SR a call re set-up since I would have no idea where to start if I had the HFTs in boxes. Also, we ended up using a lot of them. I have not counted (I'm sure I will once I get billed) them yet but probably around 20. Also, try the FEQ while you're at it. It is crazy voodoo!!

Mark:

Wait till David gets Solution's integrated or the new XA.8s. That should be special!!

The Soulution 711 is shipping Tuesday and I hope to have the XA100.8 in a couple of weeks. The McIntosh gear just arrived today. Constellation Tuesday. My head is spinning.

No doubt !! Mine too. I can't wait to get that Constellation Centaur hooked up !

Michael, I'm really looking forward to trying those new Pass .8's !!

Maybe this would help in the meantime (hopefully Peter doesn't mind):

There's another video where he does similar placement in a totally untreated room with music playing before/after the 5 levels of treatment. Even through YouTube video, you can hear the difference these little things make to the sound. Voodoo indeed.

Once I get setup with new gear and acoustic treatments, I wanted to try at least level 1 of these things...

Thanks for the video link Allen. My reaction was the same a Peter's...bewilderment. All this talk made me count and I've got 8 empty boxes so there are 40 of them floating around my room. Ted even used a ladder to place one on my pendant light.

Mike: Lol!!

Allen:

With all the Synergistic nonsense? Yes absolutely they work. It's a bit mind-boggling as there's really no comprehendible explanation for why they work. Ted gave me some "balance/harmony" thing but it was too hippy for me to grasp. But, I know I can't live without them.

I'm interested to know if "different" ends up being "better" after a few weeks.

This wasn't different like a power cord. This was definitely "better." My advice, just try them. Use one track you know, put them up (more is better) and take them down. I'd be pretty shocked if you didn't think they bettered your system.
