Michael, after spending a lot of time at David's place , I can assure you that break in is huge with the S5's. Don't panic until you're at about 800 hours or more.
1000 hours to be broken in 80-85%. 5000 hours to be 100% broken in. That's what I've heard.

That's 208 days if they're playing music non-stop!!! Almost 7 months!
Given that most normal folks wouldn't play music 24/7 for that long, they'll probably never fully break in before you're on to something else - or dead. LOL
It's gotta be the break-in. Don't worry.

Agree with Mike on this.
Michael Congrats !
Just be patience my friend and don't act like you are a newbie in this business ! hahaha.
Hi Mike, I have the exact pair of S5s you have. Funny you mention they sound "Hi-Fi". I had the same feeling at first. I only have about 200 hours on mine, but they are starting to mellow out a bit. Smoother and fuller. I live in a NYC co-op and have already received two written noise complaints so I don't have the luxury of running them 24/7. Maybe 20 hours per week. I figure by 2017,I'll be good. Keep us posted!
We'll check back with you in 2017. TTFN!
It took about 200 hours for my S5 to settle in. I don’t know where people get the numbers they get, but I will suspect that the superb resolution of these allow you to hear every little changes, including temperature, humidity and power quality. Some may contribute the changes to speaker break-in, but I seriously doubt that.
I can swear that every time our refrigerator compressor kicks in, the sound deteriorate. I have never notice it before with any other speakers I had.
