Psvane HiFi 300B in my Lampizator Big 7 balanced.....

One more thing... I find many if not most all of the 5U4G tubes to be the crispest and brightest. I love them with the right tubes...but...the RCA you have is perhaps one of the more versatile and well rounded 5U4G's. Try a National Union and you will hear things you have never heard before but it is overkill with the Takasuki and Psvane WE 101Ds... Great with some other 300Bs however... Hope this hekps

Depends on which RCA though. The pre 1946 JAN WW2 had a different construction and have the big reputation. Its the double D getter with the upward sloping angle. I have seen it called the 274b killer. Later versions not as good...

Arizona tube guy sells them for $88 each.

Only NUs I have are the 45 triode and a 5r4, I think.

Some good tube info you are dishing out there Andy!

Genjamon,

Which Aum pre do you have? Version 1 like Joe and me or version 2?

Hmm, not sure why I stopped getting the emails when updates were posted to this thread. Oh well.

I think I have Version 1 - it was one of the first batch of four he made. I've had it since August 2014. It's been in and out of the system since then - depending on synergies. It seems with the Big 7, the synergy is there - wasn't so much with the level 4.5 I had before - needed the Dude preamp in that combination. I'm curious about upgrading to Big 7 with volume control. Any thoughts on whether that would be a good move, Norman or Joe?

As for the RCA - I'll have to do some investigating. Fred just included it with the unit, so I kind of suspect it's the standard and not the highly sought after kind. But maybe I'm wrong.

You know what, now I seem to recall that Richard made some of his preamps in the springtime before Tortuga came out with their new boards - and maybe that's what you and Joe have? Mine is the new kind from Richard after the Tortuga board upgrades in June 2014.

I think I have the original version 1 and it's really great. I plan on repurposing it for a second system.

Thanks, Joe. Have you ever compared head to head with the integrated volume control in your Big 7 or GG? Probably not, since you went straight to balanced, right?

No, I did not. I went straight to balanced on both Lampizators. The Aum Acoustics built volume control was primarily for my Job 225.
