Power Conditioner use and recommendations for systems with Preamp/Source separated from Amp(s) ....

Joe.
Can't go wrong with this: :eyebrow:

It's funny, I was taking note of this exact thing at my dealer's this weekend and I noticed that all his high-end amps (Boulder 2060, Momentum's, etc.) are connected straight to the outlets. Only sources were running through Shunyata stuff (and that's all he carries). The whole building has surge at the panel. I guess once you get a high-end (like yours for example) the power supply should be good enough to deal with typical power anomalies.

I've tried running my amps through different power conditioners over the years and found them best connected directly to the wall. It was nice to see that practice was common. I've also yet to find a power conditioner that actually made my source equipment sound better either FWIW. Maybe some of you guys with super-human hearing can tell the difference, but I cannot. I only use them for surge protection.

My AC and outlets are much better than I had, but a far cry from ideal.

I'm a bit surprised that the Running Springs Audio Duke hasn't been mentioned here yet. That is what I was looking at for my next step for my amps (using a PP2000 for center channel amp, receiver, and sources). I believe Jeff W. is a dealer for these (or at least used to be). Any thoughts Jeff?

RSA was sold about a year ago and its pretty much non existent today......

WOW good to know Jeff - didn't realize that. Is there anything out there that is an equivalent unit or better (i.e. perhaps the Shunyata Hydra 2s)?

My friend and I were looking at several conditioners. He has the Silver Circle 5.0 se and will only move up to the Tchiak 6 model. These weigh about 100 lbs. The Audience weighs under 20 lbs. I not trying to suggest the heavier the better, it's just I really don't want another piece of gear I can't move. The problem is I know people with all the top recommended conditioners and each one loves what they have. This confuses me. There's no way I can try the ones I'm interested in at the same time and pick a winner. I'm leaning towards the Audience or the Tchiak 6 units but still don't know what to do.

From what I've experienced the Shunyata Triton is the Audience on steroids so you might want to add it to your short list. It's $8,000 w a Zitron Anaconda PC and comes in at 38lbs.

Never had the chance to listen to the Tchiak so ?????

Thanks Jock,

I also have the Shunyata on my short list. One thing I still think is important in my situation is DC removal. I know there are several options I have to remove DC including my Burmester 948 which is why I am hesitant to get rid of it. I do feel there might be better alternatives in my situation.

Dirty AC Power: Getting It Out of Your (Audio/Video) System Article By Roger Sheker, Chief Engineer @ Audience

I'm telling you, those APC S15/S20's are excellent. They weigh a boat load and just work great. However, there are some Furutech wall outlets in future.

A friend is taken with some of the offerings from Synergistic Research. They look interesting and have received some good press as well. May be worth a gander Joe. They certainly look the part and are, of course, priced to leave us wanting more.

According to a conversation I had with a person from Shunyata, it's the noise between components that does the most harm. He recommended I run amp directly into the outlet and everything else into a Triton or Talos. Of course there are accessories, AC cords and other options between the wall and the conditioner, but this was their minimum suggestion. I have my ARC REF 150 directly into a dedicated line, with nothing else on it, and my sources, phono preamp, server and ARC REF5SE into a TALOS. It was a major upgrade and I am not looking back. I suggest a conversation with Shunyata. They were helpful and took the time to clearly explain some things.

Thanks Bruce. I'll find out next week what your TALOS is like :)
