Posting etiquette

By "criticize and belittle people" I hope you are referring only to ad hominem attacks? There's not much point in having a forum if no criticism is allowed; otherwise (as I posted earlier) you just have a blog.

Rob, I'm talking about personal criticism. Respectful disagreements are not what I'm talking about. If a person takes a little time to thoughtfully word their comments, it can go a long way towards avoiding hurt feelings. And that's a very important thing to Mike.

Like he's always said; Be Nice! It's not that hard to do.

Perhaps positioned this way, if what you have to say is palatable for say, your spouse, child, loved one, mother, sister, brother, father, grandmother, grandfather, the pope or anyone that you respect - then perhaps it may very well be reasonable.

I suspect what the forum authorities are looking for is what is fair, rational and reasonable. In any community, there boundaries and we expect them. Otherwise, we have chaos. No one in their right mind wants rogue craziness. There's a movie for that and it's called, 'MAX'.

There is freedom of speech and then there is abuse. Finding that middle ground is a unbelievable task put upon the moderators...and well noted, unpaid/under appreciated volunteers that are here for us 24/7/365.

Lets respect them.

Oh damn, I'm lactose intolerant! Oh wait, one scoop of Breyers lactose free vanilla please, thank you.:)

I think anything except a personal attack is reasonable in a forum of this type.

Agree, disagree, whatever with the original post.

Attack the post, not the poster.

I may attack a product that I think is a fraud, but I won't call someone who likes it an idiot, although I may ask why they like it and expect a really good answer.

I imagine insecure people might be offended if someone disagrees with them, but if everyone always agreed, the forum would be of no value.

I am always respectful to posters although I might be incredulous regarding their thoughts. Products do not receive the same respect because they are inanimate objects.

When I make a posts, I don't give a damn if someone agrees with me or not. I don't need validation from others to feel good about what I may say.

I agree with every word in this post. Well done Mr. Protein.

This forum reflects the man who owns it, and it will be run as he sees fit. The forum was meant for all of us to share our love and knowledge of our great hobby, not to criticize and belittle people. Most of our members joined here to escape the other forums where that is common practice. So, if you feel like you can obey the spirit of Mike's dream, you're always welcome here. If not, there are other places out there.

Can we criticize a person's thoughts (posts) without criticizing the person in a manner which violates the forum's protocol? To Rob's point, I certainly hope so, otherwise we ain't gunna get much done around here.
