Posting etiquette

Jeez guys, it's self explanatory and academic, comment along , just stay away from Port chuffing , record cleaning machines and Magico products..

:)

Can we criticize a person's thoughts (posts) without criticizing the person in a manner which violates the forum's protocol? To Rob's point, I certainly hope so, otherwise we ain't gunna get much done around here.

Criticize Defined

1. to censure or find fault with.
2. to judge or discuss the merits and faults of:
to criticize three novels in one review.
verb (used without object), criticized,criticizing.
3. to find fault; judge unfavorably or harshly.
4. to make judgments as to merits and faults.
Origin of criticize

That's an awful lot of negative, isn't it. Some find energy and perhaps thrill in looking for the fault of others. Is there value is finding fault with someone or is there better value in uplifting others. Preferably why not work together to find the exchange of ideas - common ground?

Someone may find something to do not agree with... but is there a way to convey your ideas without being "critical/hyper negative" or as in the definition, finding fault or to make judgements.

Who likes being judged...it sucks and it's definitely a mood killer. Expressing a difference of opinion is not the same as being critical, negative, seeking/finding fault and then passing judgement.

Paul, you understand the spirit of this forum completely. Again, it's not so much WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it. Just try and be considerate to each other, it's really that simple.

What about simply asking for clarity or further information or reasonable questions in a non-condescending tone if finding oneself in disagreement? Then a more meaningful discussion can occur with all points being heard fairly, perhaps some facts will be flushed out to the open when applicable and learning takes place. That leaves everything still open to allow continued choice of agreeing or disagreeing respectfully. Most everything is opinion or personal experience anyway and that is certainly no reason to tear someone down.
Just my veiw, I may be blind.

That's really well said, Eric. Very nice done.

While most aspects of this hobby are subjective some in fact are objective. When a person has measured an objective aspect incorrectly due to lack of complete information, lack of judgement, or otherwise, IMO it is the duty of the members to apprise that person of their misconception. That's how we learn and why I am on this forum. Its not to get my rocks off because of some psychological defect, its not because I am evil, or I was beaten as a child; on the other hand, whipping someone for pleasure because of a disagreement about subjective measures would indeed likely fall under one of the above character flaws (even if it is fun).

Guys...I just read all this and referred back to the posts on the Clearaudio Double Matrix Cleaner thread that generated these 10 pages of comments, and I personally think you guys are beating a dead horse here. We're all adults. We have been participating on this site, agreeing, disagreeing, making fun of, celebrating with, educating, learning, exchanging ideas, etc...with each other for quite a few years and apart from the occasional raw nerve that is touched, it has worked pretty well and we are all big boys. All you have to have is a bit of common sense. Like Mike's cartoon said "Don't be an asshole" and the rest is all good. Nobody wants censorship of opinions and opposing points of view are welcome. Just don't be a dick. That's all. It's pretty simple really.

^^^^^^ Personally, too much BS going on this thread. It's a HiFi forum about stuff for heaven's sake. I'd like to read 10 pages of product implementation rather than the psycho babble instead. My little go at the sarcasm proved ineffective earlier as the thread goes on...

Tape rulez the rest is snake-oil. Shovel that.

Icecream thread dude ............ Analog vs digital tomrw .......... :)

This thread is getting more touchy feely than a first timer at an orgy. :D

From what I read this thread started off with a need for clarification and like all threads of this nature they end up pretty much a repetition of B.S. I say let it be, move on, it's an audio forum not a forum working to cure cancer. What's next we everyone holding hands singing 'Give Peace A Chance' :singing:

Forum etiquette is noting more than pure common sense and respect.
