Pass XP30

I just put in my order for na XP-30 and XVR-1. Another +1 for Mark at Reno Hi Fi!

Howard - congrats! Mark is a terrific guy! Paired with your XA160.5's will be a great combination. Finally fully balanced too!!!

I'm pretty stoked about it myself. :) The only bad thing is that I'm out of town until next Friday. The good news is that preamp and crossover should arrive at my house the day before I do, so I'll have the weekend to move them into my system and start them breaking in. :D

Interesting review of the XP-30 with X350.8 where he compares with the current media darling , the ARC Ref 6

The XP-30 seems to holds it own extremely well and would be the better choice depending on your audio seasoning flavour ;)

Back to my unabashed love fest for both products. I hear additional extension and speed at both ends of the XP-30, but not quite the bloom and immediacy unleashed in the mids and highs of the Reference 6. There is also a small but discernable level of additional transparency from top to bottom that the XP-30 can also offer. Again, highly articulate and resolving but never analytical and in your face. Awe inspiring stuff!

On the other hand, the Reference 6 provides the most impressive bass performance of any tube amp that I have yet auditioned. Plenty of solid-state like punch and authority without that typical tube thickness and overhang. The Reference 6 explodes with an incredible amount of dynamic energy and lifelike presence in the mids and highs that will quickly grab your attention and your pleasure. Wowser again!

Bottom line... the extension, transparency, and palpability of the XP-30 make it a must audition.

I owned the XP-30 for two years and recently had a borrowed REF6 in my system. I very much agree with the reviewer's comparison of these two preamps. I will add that the XP-30 is the most organic sounding solid state preamp that I've ever had the pleasure to listen to.

well the Xp30 is sure a great preampli BUT the price vs the Xp20 is tooooo much !!!!!! the performance from a Xp30 in not so much better vs the Xp30 or better is not 15k more from the Xp20!

the Xs Pre is a killer pre and invest in this one have a sense.

Sorry Ken but the ampli XA100.8 or XA160.8 with a XP2 or XP30 sound much better vs the combo with the ARC REF6.

if the $$ is not a problem a VAC or too a "inexpensive" Octave 700, VLT 6.5 - 7.5 :) Lamm, R.Koda(but he dont have the possibility to "turn" the phase) is sure much better.

of course this is for my "sonic" taste.
