Pass XP30

If I get the speakers I have my eye on, I was thinking of this pre to add some of Pass' famous midrange sweetness to the system. Hopefully that famous quality isn't just limited to their amps.

Yep, read both reviews. They both love the XP-30. Great comparison section in the 2nd review!

Are you located in Canada or the US? I've had great dealings with Mark at Reno Hifi in Reno Nevada for Pass gear. Super nice guy and really knows his stuff. Prices are great too! :)

I made too many changes at once to comment on the XP30 specifically but will say that it in no way hinders the flow of music from source to amps.

As I've stated in another thread, my 6B SST2 blew my expectations when compared to a prior evaluation (C500T and WW cabling) when paired with the XP30. One piece of info I will provide to future owners is that the volume control is stepped in a different way. That is, you will find yourself using the dial all the way to 70-85+. It took me a while to get used to this as I freaked out when I could not hear anything but a faint trace of music at 35-40 on the dial and thought my unit faulty (think ARC preamps). Turns out Pass wanted to give those with super sensitive speakers more usable range rather than having 85+ an area you would never venture to. I suppose it makes sense. All I know is that this preamp pairs perfectly with my Xs amps and gives good weight and texture without any unwanted sloppiness. That it measures well is not surprising to my ears.

US, Central Jersey.

While researching Pass I did come across Reno Hifi. I think it's a great model, wish more retailers did that. Great to hear some feedback on them. That is who I was planning to go with.

I dealt with Mark at Reno Hi-Fi and he is fantastic, professional, honest and follows through with everything. I give Reno the highest recommendation.

Have to get our hands on one later this year. Big Pass fans here....

BTW , Back to Pass.... I would love to get a XP30 with Class A amplifiers one day to try out. ;;;;One day...
