Did you ever try raking the speakers forward so that they are vertical or even leaning forward more than vertical? The sound is absolutely amazing when you do. Discovered this back in late 80s. The sense of being there in the original venue (with appropriate recordings) is spooky. I still do this with the Martin Logans and any other panel I play

I never tried the duetta past 90 degrees, they were very heavy and 'tippy' i'll take your word on the sound. one of my all-time faves was the Diva, they truly hit the 'apogee' with that speaker. imho, it was the high water mark for all ribbons past and present.
 
Does and ex-panel speaker owner count? I loved my Active Apogee Divas (driven by a pair of Krell KSA200b amps) and ran them for around 10 years.
The room got very hot...
 
My first high end speakers were a pair of Magnepan 2167-F (IIRC) which were the predecessors of the MGII's. I bought them in 1978 and they lasted about 2 years in the house, until my daughter who were born in 1979 started walking. I heard a big crash and my daughter had pulled herself up to try to walk, and pulled one of the speakers down. They went on sale the next day. A few years later I bought a pair of Acoustat 2+2's and they were followed by a pair of used Quad ESL63 US Monitors which were Crosby Modified. I later bought a pair of the Gradient subwoofer stands designed for the Quads.

After I fell in love with the SET sound, I abandoned panel speakers for the much high efficiency speakers I needed for my 4 watt per side Cary 2A3 amps (horns - Avantgarde Duos). Still like the panels but less than the SET's.

Having worked in the industry in the 80s through the mid 90s, I have heard many planars in the store, IRS Vs, Martin Logan Monoliths & CLS, Apogee Diva/Duetta Sigs/Scintillas, and Soundlab Dynastats. I have had Quad 57s, Crosby Quad 63s, ML CLS, Dayton Wright XG-8 Mk 3B quirky but one of my favorites using Sulphur Hexaflouride gas as a dielectric helper, SoundLab R-1/R-2s, Infinity RS1Bs, Acoustat Monitors w/direct drive amps-sensational/ 2+2s, Maggie 3.7s, and Innersound stats. I own GT Audio Works GTA 2s which for me were a big upgrade from the 3.7s. Panels rule!
 
Well I have owned Martin Logan and love Dynaudio but now I am a proud owner of a pair of Magnepan 1.7s!
