Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Dev

The two amps are both Class D, but are slightly different in their voicing. One is not better than the other. Both are used with the Nuprime DAC-10. I could live happily with either one, but since I have both I rotate them.

I see. How far from the back and side wall do you have your M3 placed ? I still have to place it properly after its broken in. I read folks on AC claims about 400/500 hrs. Is that your experience as well ?

Sorry Joe/Colin, I think we have deviated quiet a bit from the actual thread.

I have mine three feet off the back walls and four feet from the sides. Once I got them past the initial 30" I didn't notice a great deal of difference out to five feet so I moved them to a spot that sounded good and allowed peace with the Management since they are in the Family Room. I ran mine 24/7 for ten days in a spare bedroom once I did the initial check so when I hooked them up for the first "serious" listen they were at about 250 hours. Haven't heard any significant difference since other than a slight smoothing out in the bass regions.

Thanks Jack. I am running PAD breakin CD to speed up the process whenever I can. Not sure how much it helps but it started to open up nicely after 4days. Will see....

Amazing how these amps keep improving once they have more and more hours of playtime. Also, the SQ at very low listening levels is really something :audiophile:

Yes, the Nords are dead quiet and the music emerges from a totally black background. Glad you are loving them.

RV Glad you are enjoying them. Joe I was wondering if the cases make a difference in SQ, do not know why they would

If the cases offer better isolation and are structurally better, absolutely. It could not hurt and, of course, the new cases look a whole lot better. If the sound pleases your ears and the case pleases your eyes, that's a home run in my book!

Hi Colin,

I want those new NC500 mono silver cases for my pair!

...and yes RV, the Nord's just keep getting better with hours --and-- they are one of the few amps that I've personally spent time with that sound equally superb at low levels as when running full tilt. BRAVO! Colin.

Joe, it looks like the same case Mike (Blizzard) is using for his product for some time now. Its made in Japan. Since I have his product also, I can tell that it will please the eyes for sure. Not sure how much it would please the ears though but I am inclined to think it would lift the SQ couple of notches....

One thing that I noticed with the current pair of Nords, any quality footers, like Stillpoints or SR MIG, doesn't work well and degrades the sound totally.

Interesting. I am urged to try Stillpoints, etc., on all my gear but I haven't tried them. A friend swears they are the real deal so I'll have to experiment. I guess there's no blanket recommendation. Try and buy seems to be the motto.

yes, that's pretty much it - buy & try!

What I gather, and I could be wrong, that depending on the Stillpoints model, it takes some weight on the component itself for them to be effective. I have the Ultra SS which is really meant for heavy components and the Nords are very light. Maybe the Ultra Minis are a better match - Fyi, the Merrill Veritas which is significantly heavier than the Nords come with the Ultra Minis. Under my Cary slp-05, the Ultra SS works fine.

Under your BHK 300 monos you might want to try 3 or 4 Ultra SS.

Users tend to mention the component and footer combination performance like it is an absolute. They forget shelf material and rack construction play a significant role. When I switched from granite-over-composite shelves with aluminum columns to an all maple rack, the whole footer game changed.

Glad your liking the new case, its a vast improvement in all areas. Oh and it has a ON OFF DIM function for the front LED by popular demand!:woot:
Still awaiting shots of the Stereo version.

The editor of HiFi Pig bought the review amp, he now uses as his reference amp. This is it at home driving a pair of Voyla Boutique's at a cool £120,000 a pair There packing probably cost more than our amps! Enjoy.
