New Magico Speakers

I'm not sure of the price range for VAC, but I'm pretty sure the most expensive Pass Labs products you mention are 1/4-1/3 the price of Lamms, so I hope they aren't too competitive :D
Actually, that's not true - the XA200.5's have a list price of $34,000 , the Lamm M1.2's are $27,000 , the ML2.2's are $37,000 & the VAC 300.1a's are $44,000.:(

Interesting. I owned M1.2's and came to the conclusion they were terrible amps. Muddy in the bass and edgy in the upper midrange. I also owned L2 Reference preamp and it was junk. Almost had to give that one away. Now, I have heard the Lamm ML2's and thought they were great. In any case, it's all subjective stuff. I just know what I like. :)

True - completely subjective. I find it interesting though to see what reviewers hang on to after they finish reviewing scads of gear. Both Mark Mickelson and Dick Olsher have kept their M1.2's for years and hold them as Reference amps. Note Mickelson's review last week of the Maggie 3.7i's & his comment about the M1.2's.

In my system (after a blind test) , a Group from Toronto's leading audiophile group preferred a single VAC Phi200, the M1.2's & Mc601's over the XA-200.5's. Ah well, the fun continues...

Wow, wow! If SW heard you say that, I think it would be an automatic ban from We Be Funky.

Mike- you've owned Magicos. What do you think would be the ideal amp to run them with? S5 or Q3s. Just curious, thanks.

Vitus Class A was the best I heard the Magico's sound.

VAC phi200's were also good - but Vitus was better.

Yes. However, at this point I have only used Pass X600.5 amps with my S5s, so I can't really comment whether amp 'A' is better than amp 'B'. I can say if you aren't careful you can break your S5s with these amps.

To be honest, I am in heaven. For me, it now sounds great, and I am loving the music. At this point I have no desire to extract a bit more nuance from the sound. Now I am tweaking the HT/surround system.

Gotta review something after elbow reconstruction. Not much vinyl for next couple of weeks. :( or as I've been told, who better to review digital than an analog lover? ;)

I will be interested in what you think of the mainframe server. Seems alot of tech in there for a somewhat reasonable amount of money. But what that technology does for the SQ would be interesting.

I agree on all points. $4000 and will do quad DSD. It sounded good the last day of the New York show, especially when they movedf the DAC off the server. Would have likes to hear the new Allnic DAC but probably will use with the new AMR DAC.

Myles-Perfect timing for you to review something digital because playing vinyl with one hand is damn near impossible. I was thankful for my server when I had the two arm surgeries because at least I had something to listen to and 'slumming' with DSD sourced from tape was/is pretty damn good. No, it's not analog, but it can be really good when done well.

After my bicep tendon surgeries, it took a long time before I could remove an LP from the record sleeve and put it back in the sleeve with anything approaching normalcy. Being right-handed and not having full supination is a bitch.

God acts in strange ways. I'd also love to hear the new PS Audio combo.

Myles, do you have the specs on the Mainframe server? Not much on the web.

If you do try the Allnic DAC would again be interested what a vinylphile thinks of it. I was auditioning TTs when I stumbled onto the DAC and it sounded more analog than the TT setup!

Anyway, back to Magico...
