My Lampizator 211's are here ....

Hello Joe, Your gear looks great, good for you.

I had an early pair of Lampizator GM70SE and together with my Lampizator Big 6 they produced the best sound I ever heard ~ I'm the chap who asked Lukasz to make the first DAC using the amp enclosures, the Big Six that used to be photographed on the Lampi site is mine.

Unfortunately they (GM70SE) did hum a little and this was particularly bad for me as my stack 'the bunker' is so that I sit less than half a meter from my amps. May I ask, has this issue been dealt with, are the transformers quiet? I heard that this issue has been fixed and after all the positive remarks here, I am eager to take the plunge again, if you would only be so kind and please confirm that these 211's run quiet. Thanks and best wishes. ;)

Hi Angelo,

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for the kind words.

I almost bought the Lampi GM-70 but was not sure to take the plunge. I am so happy that I waited.

Yes! My 211's are dead quiet, both on the speakers and the amps themselves.

I will say that I discovered, several years ago, that I had DC on my AC lines and that was causing some amp transformers to hum, badly. I had to use PS Audio Humbuster III's to keep everything quiet. I had since installed new dedicated AC lines and now use a Burmester 948 power conditioner that keeps everything dead quiet.

I am so happy with the sound I am getting.

Joe. Have you ever pair your 211 amps to other pre amplifier you have ? If so did you find any pros and cons with alternative way ?

Hi Paul,

I have not tried my GAT yet because it's single ended RCA only. My 211's only have balanced XLR inputs. I don't want to use adapters but think I will try it. I don't have any other preamps at the moment but really want to try a great true/fully balanced preamp with them. I have always preferred a preamp in the chain but this Lampi combo is so amazing, I don't think I need it. I want to try it to hear if I get more than I give up (extra cables, more tubes, more heat) with a preamp.

Thank you Joe, 'dead quiet' is what I needed to hear. I just put in an order.

Thank you also for the tips about hum. A few years ago I noticed that turning a light on had a reply in my speakers, I mentioned it to Lukasz and he gave me a phase flip SILK, then the effect ceased, but this was no help for the GM70s so if I find that the transformers hum on my new 211's I shall take a leaf out of your book.

The sound I got with the GM70 was addictive. I think the best description I could give was that it was the cleanest window into the music I have ever heard. Perfect balance nice slam, clarity and 'right' -ness. I told Lukasz "I didn't notice any of the fabled lamp amplifier warmth, it sounds clean and sort of right." Lukasz clarified "It's not about nostalgia, it's about purity, transparency."

Now I hear on this forum about not just a little but 'factors' better and running quiet. I think I may have died and gone to heaven because a well sorted GM70SE is all I ever wanted in an amp and here in the UK I can live with the only downside, heat. :)

I was able to get this picture of a 211 in progress this morning from Lukasz for you.

Thanks !
So how all this will be connected ?
Print board or point to point wiring ?

Congratulations on the order. I will be biting my nails until they are installed. I can try mine direct to the wall and see what I get, hum and noise wise. I am so invested in my Burmester 948 that I am afraid to take it out. A funny story, I had small brown out at some point while I was away for the day. This is well before my Lampi gear arrival. I usually turn on my stereo after work and listen until I fall asleep. I have been noticing that the sound was not like I remember. For several days I am going through music and just not happy. Finally I look at everything and notice the lights on the 948 front panel are off, meaning all active DC correction and active filtering are not on. WOW! Holy cr@p! I activate all circuits and bingo, Perfect sound again. That sold me right there.

Hi Angelo,

You made inhere after all! Bring Robert and the other fellow along too.

I think they are integrated mono-blocs.

There is a volume control on the amps. I have mine set to almost max and use the volume control on the Big 7. I have not tried another source, yet.

Angelo, with a Balanced 21 amp, you will want a balanced Lampi Dac to go with that to get the full effect. Never best to mix SE and Balanced in a single chain.

Try borrowing one from Greg to get a feel for what I said.

I think P2P, as he would never have enough volume to justify printing PCBs, I would be surprised if he can make more than say 20 pairs a year at current capacity. Each is an artisanal endeavour vor connaisseurs.

Joe, what is the Burm 948?

The PCB cost is very cheap.
I would like to see a pic of a finished amp.

Not when you have a minimum order quantity and upfront design…at least that is my understanding.

I would love to see a pic too, BTW.

Verdier amps and preamps use PCBs. And they are produced on order. Very small quantities.
Time is money.
P2P wiring is much more expensive. Because it is time consuming.
