A little premature Paul. I do LOVE my Strads.

You never know. I may have room for another pair somewhere :)

Welcome to Tannoy family Joe. :congrats::yahoo1::woot::exciting::cryforjoy::band:

I totally understand. My MC601's are going next week. The Pass XA60.5's, ART monos, Hegel H30 and MC275's are better on the Strads.

Joe enjoy your speakers and gears . I just sold one of my MC275 too. Keeping one for souvenirs . ;)

Hmmmm . 601's now were talking I'll take them in toward the kingdoms lmao ... Looking at your pic I figured you were running 2301's

All kidding aside even if your not ready still welcome anytime , bring your fav music and you can play with the kingdoms , I have them on an xp-30 so you will have some baseline of the sound of the pre , also can give a listen to the Canterbury Gr , or we can just get dinner and a few drinks lol

2301's are on the wish list.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Joe,
A single McIntosh MC225 in stereo is much better than the 2301's if you listen at normal volumes ( around 80-85 dB).
Better dynamics, richer tones. Much more involving.
The 2301's are truly boring compared to the 225.
Hard to believe I know.
But I sold the 2301's. The 225 will never leave my house.
The 2301's are good amps.
But they are just not at the level of the best tube amps McIntosh made.
Compared to the 225, they just have no soul.

Joe , just a lead for you ,a friend is selling a pair of snell illusions . They are killer speakers and to be honest right there with my kingdoms . I was the second owner of them and cried when they left , but word is the buyer is reselling them. They were snells flagship and d'appolitos last full design . This pair was 60k and then had a high gloss finish applied to them at the mcintosh factory for 5300.00 , I know the full history of them or I wouldn't even suggest a used pair of speakers to you . Kicker is the guy must be in some kind of money trouble cause he's asking 12,900 .. If your are looking for speakers that is flat out robbery and they are among the best ever produced .there is a chance I may buy them just because they can't ever be replaced for that price if your not interested . Here's a pic from when I owned them .. And I sold them used for 27500 not long ago . They are 500 pounds of pure rock and roll ;)

Jim,

They look beautiful. The Strads took any free cash from me for a while. Thank you for thinking of me. Looks like a killer deal.

They are beautiful and like I said one of the best out there . When we did the the release of the gr series even the Tannoy reps were in agreement they preferred the snells . Pass on the info if you have friends , someone is going to get a smoking deal , audio classics is selling bstock versions for 25k and without the gloss finish ..I saw them pop up on audiogon and almost chocked at the price .. In Asia they were going for 75-100k lil over a year ago no problem guess he needs cash cause it is a ridiculous price

They are listed on audiogon so if you know anyone looking pass it around . If anyone has been to cedia in the past they should know these speakers , mcintosh would blast the wall album everyday when the show closed them snells filled the whole convention center .. They are a bad ass pair of speakers ..

I have the 275 60th , and 275 vI , I'm not sure oh he got a bad pair or 2301's but the 275 in mono sound nowhere close to the 2301 IMO . The 275 do have a little more of that old dirty warmth but if that's what you are chasing find some orig v1,v2 . But on just about every other category the 2301 wins hands down , I have both hooked up to pair of amanti annivisario and never once in 2 years did so,Rome prefer the 275 other then maybe 1/10 felt he the highs with a little warmer/softer . But the 2301 can pop a driver as well as a JL sub . No lag ,no rumbling just POP . Stop . POP stop .. Them lol ladies are tight ;) ...again just my opinion . But also the option of most of The Mcintosh family design /engineering ground . There is so little in the path of the 2301 signal it's crazy . Looks are deceiving for sure

I preferred my 2301's over my 275 IV and over my 501's. Very clearly.
But my 225 is much better than all of them.
On "normal" sensitivity / impedance speakers of course and at normal domestic SPL's ( 85dB).
I won't try to drive 83 dB/ 2 ohms speakers at 100dB with the 225 of course.

Congrats Joe !
The 225 is an absolute Reference of tube amplifiers. A Giant killer.

Now wait until you can pair it with the 40.1 !
I am very happy for you buddy !

Thank you Jerome!

I could not go the bed last night. The amp made everything sound great. I just love it!

Sounds great on my Strads, can't wait for the 40.1's
