JOB Monoblocks

Thanks for the info. I actually have the Job250 and considering if I should get another pair of 250 or try a different amp. I do have a airtight pre from my main setup but the gain is too high when combined. Hence, I am considering an integrated (H300 or M6500I) with ht by-pass or the Job with a pre that has by-pass.

The Job Monos have the same sound signature of the 225 (speed/cleanliness/transparency) but adds grunt when called upon with more challenging speakers. For my bookshelves, I really could not realize any difference.

For the floorstanders, I got a pal to lend me another sweetcord, as I only own one, and ther I could tell a bit of a difference. Mind you, my speakers have small woofers. I suspect with real full range monolithic type transducers, the extra grunt will be seen/felt immediately.

The Job amps also respond to type of preamp used. I had use a carbon pot passive and when I switched to a powered LDR passive pre and blammo...MUCH better. The 250s sang even more than the 225. The whole thing gave me mad respect for the 225 though, as unless you need that extra grunt, the 225 will more than suffice to kep you happy.

Thanks for the response! I just placed an order from Tortuga Audio to try one of their LDR passive preamps to see how it goes with the 225.

Did you happen to notice at all if the 250 monoblocks ran a little cooler than the stereo 225? My 225 is fairly broken in and when I push my 4ohm speakers for a while it still gets pretty hot.

Neither amp ever got hot for me and I would suspect the 250s would be impervious to that given their much greater capacity…each one weighs more than the 225.

The LDR preamp was not from Tortuga…just the LDR unit. The preamp was from aum acoustics: Rethm Trishna, Metrum Acoustics Pavane, Triode Labs 2A3, Aum Acoustics LDR Preamp - Aum Acoustics

Not sure if he making any more, but you could try to see if he would be persuaded...

Joe has one as well and Playingtheblues had one and sold it.

The power supply I have for my DSPeaker AM 2.0 is from Richard at AUM Acoustics. He's a super nice guy but I thought I had read somewhere he wasn't building those LDR pre's anymore.

I liked the case that Richard used for those preamps but the ones from Tortuga aren't bad either.

Its the wires that made the difference. Amalgam of gold, platinum and silver.

Hi William,

I'd love your opinion of the monos vs the stereo amp should you decide to buy them. I plan on getting them later on this year.

Joe, do let me know how they pair up with your 40.1s.
I've been contemplating on getting the job monos too!

Hi Yee,

It might be a while until I try the Job monos. I got detoured with a Devialet 400. I just finished setting up the 40.1's in place of my Strads. The Harbeth have not been played for awhile but sounds great so far. I am positive the Job monos will be awesome. At normal volume, the Job stereo was great but ran HOT. Harbeth needs power.

Nice ! Congrats on the new toy!
I can take some heats from the Job for my cold listening room, this winter is endless LOL

Ha!

You are right. Thank you.

The Job 225 got hot in a bad way. The 40.1 are not that efficient. You'd love my Pass XA60.5's. They sound great on them.

LoL

The monos are called model 250 and each one is heavier than a single 225!

If you like the 225, the monos ae just more of the same witjh more grunt and headroom. Grippier bass too.
You will only see this in more demanding speakers though...otherwise the 225 will suffice.

The only reservation for the 250 would be catastrophic amp killing prolonged impedance drops below 2 ohms somewhere up there (>1Khz) in the frequency range....such as the old Infinity Ref IRS V, for example. Only tube amps with rising impedanace up the freq range or Monster powerplant amps like perhaps the biggest Krells aor the Telos amps with TWO torroids per monobloc would suffice.

Anything else will be totally controlled by the monos and you can have no fear, as they will play loud with the massive gain. No once in the 5 weeks I had them did I ever feel I even more than tickled them...total overkill in BOTH my systems. I had them up to about 50% (12 noon) on the Aura passive pre and was worried my neighbours would complain as it was about 10pm on a Saturday. Heheh

Great news Norman. This makes me even more excited to try the monos. I know they will be awesome.
