JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Hi Randy, while understanding you want a Mc in your system, but with your Teac, why don't you get a used Pass INT30A for the LS50's. That'd not only fit your room, budget nicely, the sound will be superb while even saving some money.

While not a bad idea I think if I was going to switch up it would be for a pure Pre-Amp since I have the JOB amplifier arriving in a couple days. I already have a very nice Integrated Amp and will be using it's pre-amp outputs to go to the amp. Unless I was getting a pure pre-amp it would not be something I was interested in doing. I do appreciate the input and ideas though!

What about a C22 and keep the DAC separate as that is where the technology is changing the fastest. You will then have a preamp you can use for years and change DAC's as the market changes.

Another consideration, from a lot of research and reading it sounds a little like the JOB amplifier is not the best match with a tube pre-amp. I may be reading a bit into it but that is the general feeling I am getting.

By the way, I just wanted to thank all you guys for making suggestions and putting in ideas. I really appreciate it. It is nice to hear ideas and suggestions for people who love this crazy hobby. With virtually no dealers around it is very hard to actually have the chance to compare equipment so others opinions, research and articles really are my only sources :)...

Not entirely true. It just depends on the preamp and the gain involved. My CJ GAT sounded great but the gain was high. So very low volumes was tricky at best. McIntosh preamp have trim functions on the input/output so you can reduce gain. Prima Luna preamps have 10 dB gain, Vinnie Rossi preamps have 0 dB gain. So you just have to be careful.

The MXA70 has an input trim of +/- 6 db. By trimming the input would this provide the same type of functionality?

Ok, I just checked on this one. In the specification sheets they call it input level match. The C47 and C52 have it but the D150 and the C22 do not. The MXA70 does have it.

Absolutely. Try it at zero first, then if gain is too high, use the trim.

When I had a C2300, I trimmed it a little and it was fine.

Nice... so that makes it clearer, if I was going to go with a McIntosh pre-amp it is looking like the C47 is the one. It really is starting to look like they put a ton of extra stuff in this little MXA70 :)...

They are wonderful pieces. I can not wait until you hook up the Job and give us a little feedback.

Me also... now I am getting excited... the input trim is really designed to match up various components feeding into the amp, but since everything is going into the Teac and then feeding to the McIntosh it can be used to match up the gain going into the amplifier... nice....

I really think once people realize exactly what these little units are they may very well become a McIntosh classic :)....

Hehe... I just checked, my amp is still listed as being in Germany :)....

Randy,

It's great to see all the fun you are having and experience you are getting. This "hobby" can get crazy, but in a good way. Enjoy the ride, that's the important thing.

Well, I listened to the C52, which I believe is the same dac in the C47 and I have to say it is wonderful. I was actually pretty stunned how good. I do not know the D150 but I am not sure the analog preamp part of the D150 is as good as the C47/C52, meaning I am not sure if the D150 just attenuates the sound or is active. I believe the C47/C52 are better, in my opinion.

If you can either demo both and decide, or stretch for the C47, that would be my choice.
I believe the C52 preamp has a different dac than the C47 as the C52 now has DSD capability.

Cheers......

Ok, my amp was in Cincinnati at noon today... maybe they will make it here tomorrow a day ahead of time :)... that would be fantastic!
