JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

That would be amazing. I have Wireworld XLR cable coming in Tuesday also to go between the Teac and the McIntosh (replacing a basic XLR cable).

If it arrived the early part of next week that would be awesome.

BTW- you had mentioned that you wanted to try the mono JOB amps. Did you ever give them a go?

Not yet, but your enthusiasm has me excited again. I'm close but there's a few more pieces I may reach for first.

I wish I could afford to try a few things out :)....

Eventually I am thinking I might sell the MXA70 and get a standard McIntosh pre-amp... It is a nice match in how it looks on my rack though and I cannot image it not doing a fine job. I would have a hard time believing that their standard pre-amps would sound much better; the MXA70 has the major advantage of having their best headphone amplifier circuitry in it. I just feel a tad guilty that I have this $6000 unit sitting here and not using either the speakers or the amplifier in it. I do have the speakers hooked to the Yamaha in the TV system, but way over kill there :)....

By the way, being that I grew up in Binghamton having at least one McIntosh piece in my system is a requirement :D....

I got confirmation from DHL that the amplifier has shipped out of Switzerland and is slated to arrive on Thursday!

Congrats Randy! I really think the Job 225 will be an eye opener. Strap yourself in, it may turn your audio world upside down.

No need to feel guilty, we all learn something new as we get more experience and change our minds as time goes on.

Because of you, I ordered a pair of LS-50. Nice!

So Joe, your opinion, I am planning on using the MXA70 as a pre-amp for now. Do you think it will give me as good of sound quality as getting a separate McIntosh pre-amp? I think it will probably be ok, but also think I could easily sell it with the matching speakers and pay or a Mc pre-amp... You have any opinions?

My feeling it will be fine to get you started, but you may want to jump to a dedicated preamp, especially if you are planning on another or different McIntosh amp. I believe you will eventually notice a difference.

Grey on the LS-50.

For pure digital, do you believe there be any different from say the D150 to a C47... I will never go back to analogue so only concern is the digital aspects. Would these be better DAC then the Teac? I know, I am picking your brains, but I do appreciate your opinion... I am asking a few people that I truly trust their opinions and then will plan the next move :D...

Well, I listened to the C52, which I believe is the same dac in the C47 and I have to say it is wonderful. I was actually pretty stunned how good. I do not know the D150 but I am not sure the analog preamp part of the D150 is as good as the C47/C52, meaning I am not sure if the D150 just attenuates the sound or is active. I believe the C47/C52 are better, in my opinion.

If you can either demo both and decide, or stretch for the C47, that would be my choice.

Ok, thank you for the opinion. I believe that all three have the same DAC in them. I think maybe down the road a bit I will get a C47 and then sell the MAX70 and the Teac... trade for a C47 would certainly not be out of the realm of discussion :D.... I am pretty sure the retail on the D150 is $3000, C47 is $4000 and the C52 is $7000.... while the MXA70 retail is $6000 and the Teac was I think either $850 or $950....

What about a C22 and keep the DAC separate as that is where the technology is changing the fastest. You will then have a preamp you can use for years and change DAC's as the market changes.

Not a bad idea.... It might be a tad out of price range that I would be considering. Maybe down the road it could be a worthy consideration.

Hi Randy, while understanding you want a Mc in your system, but with your Teac, why don't you get a used Pass INT30A for the LS50's. That'd not only fit your room, budget nicely, the sound will be superb while even saving some money.
