JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Any low gain preamp, tube or solid state, would be great. Vinnie Rossi or battery powered ones work well too. I think the Primaluna would sound great.

With any of the preamps for the JOB you really need to stay below about 8db gain, especially with tubes. I had great luck with every amp I tried it with including the Job, with the W4S STP-SE. It may take a little searching to find a tube pre with below double digit gain though. The Job Pre may work great with their amp, but might not be so good if you change amps.

The NuPrime DAC-10 has a ladder-resistor volume control with 99 0.5 dB steps that has only a single resistor in the signal path, and the noise level is very low, $1500.

That it does and works well with the JOB, plus it has two pairs of SE analog inputs as well as SE and balanced outputs. I found it to be better sounding and more flexible than the DAC-2 it he wants to replace the DAC also. Might want to also look at Asthetix Calypso as it has two gain settings depending on budget.

I'm highly interested to know more about the INTegrated. Looking at the facebook pics, I'm wondering how the amp section differs from the 225 since there doesn't appear to be a heatsink at the back anymore? Originally, I was hoping this thing would be a combination of the 225+Pre2 with a version of the Alize DA in it. I guess I was looking at it like a 'poor mans' version of the Devialet since I was looking to run my Cubox directly into the Job INT. Depending on how the pre/amp section is, I might just go with the 225.

Welcome to the forum Adrian. Thank you for joining.

Thanks Joe! I've been a long time lurker and really interested in picking up the Job kit. Waiting to see what's up with the Integrated since I'm not sure what happened to the heatsink if it's supposedly a 225 in there.

I've got a pair of Focal 1008Be's that I picked up for a reasonable price and have been looking for a decent amp. Originally I wanted to go DAC direct but thinking I might be better off with the Pre2+225 since my DAC is still a question mark in terms of performance at the moment (LH Labs Pulse Infinity). This is why I'm interested in the Integrated as a safe choice.

I was wondering that too once someone mentioned it. I hope to have one next week to play with and am really curious to hear it. I loved the Job 225 and as long as your speakers are fairly benign, it can be a stunning inexpensive option. I am still a little unsure of the total watts per channel and was going to order the Job monos to be on the safe side. I still may buy the monos when my friend buys the INTegrated from me. We'll see. I am waiting for tracking info.

I was also thinking about the monos but I'm only using a pair of Focal 1008's. My budget is limited and I thought I should probably have the Pre2 in the loop to make sure there's no DC issues.

Hi Joe, as to power output, have a look here:

I have never, repeat, never heard anyone complain of or have dc issues with the Job amps. I was a VERY early adopter. It's a NON-issue in my mind and made way too much of on the forums and/or reviews. I have used 40-50K retail speakers with about 4 Job amps and personally know several friends with Job amps and they never had an issue either.

Do you have a preamp now?

Hi Joe,

No I don't have a preamp right now. I planned to set things up like this: Cubox -> LH Labs Pulse Infinity -> Job 225 -> Focal 1008

The specs of your speakers look pretty good, even for the Job 225. I'd opt for the newer amp, but that's just me.

On the circuitry and lack of heat sinks, I have found out a bit more here:

Thanks for the heads up. I'm assuming you asked Job directly and they said it's a newer gen circuit compared to the 225? I emailed Job a while back and asked them to keep me in the loop. Will reach out again.

I'm curious what's under the hood since I'd like to know what the DAC section looks like as well as the USB receiver. Ideally I'd like to run the Cubox -> Job INT -> Speakers.
